Sorry, this is probably on the wrong forum...

Sorry to hear of your loss Filbo. We said goodbye to our 13yr old golden retriever in October. Still step over ‘him’ in his favourite snoozing spot in the passage.
With everyone coming back to ours at Christmas, we’re scattering his ashes and having a mulled wine and marshmallow wake in the field to his remembrance.
They give you so much unconditional love and you’re lost without them.

Lost a few dogs over the years , true they are man’s best friend
Always there , never on a downer and always waiting for you when you
come home having sat thru 90 mins of dross
Always had another one but one day it will be my last

We lost our cocker spaniel in April after 14 1/2 years.

Sorry to hear your loss and all we can do is try to remember the good times and the unconditional love

i recently inherited a dog and in less than a year she’s my new best friend so I can’t imagine what youre going through now
it may seem a bit callous but there are loads of dogs that need a loving home and you now have a vacancy

just a thought

I feel for you, lost ours 5 years ago still with me on my phone but the place is empty as l can't get another too damned expensive but at my age it may be cruel to get another

Replied on Facebook and I’ll reply again so very sorry know what your going though.
Hopefully see you for a pint raise a glass to Minnie on Saturday 🌈💙

Just awful and really feel for you. Our English Bull Terrier is a loon and he is loved by all the family. We'd be lost without him.

Awful - so sorry to hear this, Filbo. One of the reasons I’m hesitant to get a dog is because I’ve witnessed the heartbreak of friends whose dogs have passed away. My sincere condolences.

Sincere condolences Filbo. We've never had a mutt but I'm under pressure from Mrs. KP and Hippocrates for us to get one. There are very many positives I know but the total commitment requirement and Clapham's apposite thoughts are two significant downsides for me. Should I relent?

Thank you.
All I can really say is that although you will have seen the heartbreak in others, you won't personally have been blessed by the unique life-long magic that dogs bring for their families.
As long as you're in a position to keep your side of the deal, I would always encourage anyone sane not to deprive themselves of that magic.

Thank you too.
I think my reply above also applies with regard to your hesitation. I would add that the correctly-identified 'total commitment' reminds me of Newton's Third Law – your commitment will be equalled by that of your pooch. Which equates to a win-win for me.

Thank you.
Fortunately we still have our rescue pooch to keep us company, as neither of us could cope with a silent house at the present time. He's usually a bit of a handful, but was on exemplary behaviour when the vet came yesterday.
I feel guilty for now recalling the League of Gentlemen's hapless vet, but it's good to smile...

...but I'd like the odd Roofer who've met her, to know that we've had to bid a tearful farewell to our beloved spaniel Minnie today.
We are bereft.
Why do they have such short lives much more deserving of long lives than humans?
He meant this :
