Pearson sacked

He made some ominous remarks only a few days ago. Apparently, no one was willing to talk to him regarding a contract extension after this season.
Former Leicester and Watford manager Pearson signed a three-year deal until 2024, but after the loss to Coventry last weekend he said that he may be "fighting for his job" with the deal soon to expire.

"My position has not been secure, which irritates me," Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol.
I guess we now know why!

From the outside, it's seems a very strange decision.

Why is it strange
Average manager of a poor team
I'm not privy to what's exactly going on there, so (like most on here) have to draw mostly on what others say and write. For instance, this fellow from the BBC:

Analysis - Richard Hoskin, BBC Radio Bristol sport editor

There's been a lot of 'noise' in recent days about the future of Nigel Pearson, ever since he expressed his "irritation" that the club hadn't opened contract negotiations about a new deal.

In his time at Ashton Gate, Pearson has trimmed the squad and wage bill - losing Antoine Semenyo and Alex Scott to Bournemouth, with the significant transfer fees received for these players not appearing to be reinvested in the squad.

In recent weeks he's been walking with crutches, as he waited for more tests to diagnose a "neurological situation".

Against Cardiff on Saturday, the Robins were hindered by an ever-growing injury list.

It's a big, dare I say controversial decision by the Lansdown family - with a lot of City supporters backing Pearson.

Average manager achieving average results at average club perhaps but at least he got them going in the right direction. They were totally shit.

The comments on the BBC website all (I mean ALL, literally) seem to agree that this is a completely bizarre decision, and they're very complimentary about what he's done in an environment of selling their best players, trimming the wage bill and no investment forthcoming from the owners.

Another bizarre set of owners it seems!

They were the worst side we’d played all season and that includes Stoke and QPR.

Out of interest, I had a look at a Bristol City fan's website. Pages and pages of utter disbelief and disgust at the owners.

A few random picks (there are probably hundreds of similar ones):

I'm absolutely livid at this. **** both the Lansdowns. Get out of our club.

Best manager we've had in a long time, selling our best players, and not giving any back whilst letting Ashton and Co run wild with our finances.

Jon is an absolute disgrace of an appointment, which screams nepotism, something we've had a problem with previously (remember when LJ wouldn't get dropped in Midfield?)

Utterly disgraceful decision. Genuinely angry and really annoyed at this. The club has finally tipped me over the edge with this one. Another in a long list of ridiculous mistakes the hierarchy have made.

We need new ownership. SL & JL = GET OUT OF OUR CLUB.

Christ there have been some dire times at this club in the 30 years I have been watching (appreciate others have done so for much longer and through much tougher i.e. early eighties) but at least in my time I don't recall a moment I have ever felt more disillusioned or detached from the club than hearing this news. We knew it might be coming but part of me didn't want to believe the Lansdown's would be so ridiculous.

This is not a footballing decision however they dress this up. We've been competitive in all of the games we've played this season and anyone who spends any amount of time watching can see what is developing. I'm one of those people who finds it quite awkward to be outright dismissive of SL given the investment he has made in the club, but at this point he is no better than all the other lunatics or overseas owners.

This is a scandalous decision which appears to be at odds with the vast majority of supporters - in which case he clearly no longer cares about who he represents, so perhaps it's time to sell up and move on.

The only thing I could understand is if there is a deal ready to go for investment in the club. Anything other than that then I think that the Lansdown regime is killing the club and they really have lost the plot altogether.

The statement says that results are the issue. They’ve got loads out through injury, a team full of academy youngsters, Nige has had no money to spend and yet they are expecting promotion? Seriously? Promotion? They can’t even be in the same universe as everyone else if they honestly believe we should be top of the league?

I love this club, but unless the sacking is due to some big sale to a serious investor then I’m done.

We were lucky to have such a superb calibre of manager as Nigel Pearson who worked under ludicrous constraints but who never complained publicly. Had he been given money to spend I believe that we would have eventually reached the Premier League. I really fear that we will be plunged back into another shambles and this time there really would be nowhere to hide for the Lansdown’s.

Seriously gutted by this ridiculous decision. Dumbfounded.
...and on and on it goes!

There's also a "Thank you Nige" thread:
For me, he has transformed the culture and built a team with a work ethic and who are genuinely likeable. Our standards have been raised and the number of young players who have had a chance - admittedly partly influenced by budget restrictions - has been incredible.

If the club have got sense and strategy, he has left a fantastic platform to build on. (Of course, if the club had sense and strategy he would still be here but this is a positive thread about NP and not about that).

Cheers Nige! I hope the standards you have set continue in your absence.

Nige did a great job turning the club around, the whole culture of it and had to do the best with a bad hand he was dealt in terms of budgets, recruitment and having to bring through younger players, no way should have been let go. Genuinely needs to be a proper Q&A where the Lansdowns should have to front up to some tough questions but there won't be.
...and so on and so on...

NFP did great things during his time at LCFC

The thing with his son was shamefully embarrassing for his son, Pearson, and the Club. It was brave but correct to sack him and as a result we won the Premier League.

I wish him well, good health and if he chooses it, success in his next job.

I live in Somerset and I have found the Robins fans to be a decent lot, well balanced and generally pleased with the Job big Nige was doing. NP was working on a project, developing young players and bringing them through to the first team, it was working but the owners cashed in and wouldn't reinvest in the squad. Yet somehow they expect NP to be around the play off positions? NP was backed to rebuild at LCFC after coming in after the Holloway disaster and was brilliant again after returning from Hull City again building over 3 years a team that won the championship and established the solid foundations for Ranieri to do the 5000/1 PL Title win. This took years of investment, something he has never had at any other club. How lucky we are to have our owners, apart from last seasons car crash they have made us a club other fans regard as a brilliantly run football club. I wish Nigel Pearson the very best, I hope his health recovers, for me and many other Leicester fans he is right up there with being one of the very best managers of LCFC .

Price? he is no twat. Yeah puts his foot in it when it comes to the media but the players love him, Kasper, Nuge, Kingy, JV, James, all have said how he looked after his players. He doesn't suffer fools, maybe that is his downfall?
