One thing being overlooked about VAR

GTIF

Roofer
Mr G made this point at the start
The VAR officials should not know the referee and assistants personally
If they all train together and and are pals they are unlikely to drop each other in it on big decisions
He is happy at Sky so wouldn't want the gig but suggested ex refs who don't know the current crew should be trained for the role
Also, and he won't say this publicly, in his opinion the current crop of PL refs are the worst he has seen
He exempts Oliver from that but says watch him closely and you will see he never gives two big calls in one game

This is simply THE problem. All guys together, whether they be ‘friends’ or not. Too close as work colleagues, so psychologically you don’t drop them in it. It’s called being human

VAR should be sacked, or only used for simple decisions - like whether the ball has crossed a line.
Though saying that, I will thank VAR for eternity for the video of those Chelsea fans celebrating their equaliser in the FA Cup final...
Which I can't revisit or share, because we can't use Google (though I don't use Google)...
