John Hollins RIP

A gent. A word that was used quite a lot for footballers in the 1960s. Don’t hear it so much these days, for some reason.

714 top division appearances (1963-1984). The record for an outfield player. Only Peter Shilton has more. Played in the first leg of the 1965 League Cup Final against Leicester City.

A really solid player. So many games for Chelsea and eventually went to Arsenal aged 33 via 4 seasons at a v good QPR. Then made 172 appearances for the gooners in the top division. Incredible.
But only played once for England. Was he a DM? I believe so. So was kept out by Nobby Stiles and then Alan Mullery. RIP
