Had an issue at work last week. A delivery from India had termites in the packaging.
We moved the pallets outside.
I was due to meet a supplier this morning to show him an issue with stock he’s bringing in to us. The container arrives and lo and behold it’s another delivery of the stock we found last week. I checked it out and sure enough there was evidence of termites on this delivery too. The container didn’t smell too healthy either!
So container rejected, e-mails sent and they come back to me with the fumigation certificate from India. It obviously didn’t work but interestingly I googled the chemical it was fumigated with. The chemical is banned in the EU and all United Nations countries but in the UK, although banned we allow products into the country that have been sprayed with it. Another example of Taking back control I thought. While trying to get more info on the chemical, data sheets etc, I come across another chemical, an insecticide, chlorpyrifos, which is banned throughout the EU fields because it causes irreversible brain damage in children. But guess what, the EU is shipping some 380 tonnes a year to poor countries with weaker regulations. The main destinations were Algeria, Tunisia, Kazakhstan, Bangladesh, Pakistan and Costa Rica.
I don’t care if you’re a leaver or a remainer. It’s fucking disgusting, and we let these cunts take the moral high ground with us.
