From 1966 - but not that!

Great find Mistryman. I think though it’s from 1968 as it states that Man City we’re the current league champions.
The capacities of the grounds are unbelievable aren’t they. I never did fathom how the hell we used to get 42000 in FS considering we basically had half a ground.
Remember going to Hillsborough for the 69 SF and my grandad pointing out that where we were sitting was converted just a few years before for the 66 WC into an all seater cantilever stand.
So many grounds were over 60000.
I notice that this is part 1/4 of all the FL grounds at the time. Wonder where the other 3 parts are? Be interesting to see

35,000 at Loftus Road!

All grounds had far more terraces than seats. Filbo had standing on all 4 sides then with just the decker and main stand with seats.

And there was little health and safety restrictions back then.

But we were a bloody sight warmer with the large crowds, but FS was a shithole ........but loved nevertheless

Been to most of them in the days of terraces, what a totally different experience it was from today. Most were shit holes though and if you needed a pony the only thing you could do was use the women’s bogs, as no one ever used h them and they had bog roll.

Miss them all, loved going forest and Cov but it really is much better now. If I could go back in time and visit a ground with leicester it would be Forest. Hated them but always felt superior to them with the exception of about 5 years.

Such memories of grounds I visited in the 60s and early 70s. They may have been dumps in retrospect but at the time they were all like cathedrals to me. And they were all distinctive. Wolves with that gabled stand; Spurs with the Shelf; Hillsborough with the first cantilever; Liverpool with the Kop; Villa with the Holte End; etc. Filbert Street was poor in comparison but I loved it. Remember the brass band outside the tunnel. 3 beats on the drum prefaced the Post Horn Gallop before our heroes emerged.

Highfield Road , May 1967. Coventry clinch promotion .This stand was replaced by a double decker.

I’ve said before I find it really odd that it was so big. I recall an open end at the main road end of the stadium but I don’t remember it being that big and it was replaced due to the Taylor Report by a shit stand with a roof with pillars at a time that every club built a cantilever roof stand.

For me this was the 90’s when Ogrizovic was in goal, maybe they sold some land and made the end smaller?

I reckon I went to FS in the late 60’s/early 70’s at least 6 times when we had 40000+ crowds. Some were all ticket but some of the others had to have been over 42k. The 4-3 in 68, the replay vs Man City in 66 and replay vs the scousers in 70 I particularly remember were heaving.
My grandad went to the 1928 record vs Spuds. 47000+!!
