Did you ever get locked out of FS?

I’ve always been fascinated by attendances and following on from the article on 1960’s grounds, did anyone here not get into FS for some of those big cup matches? Never happened to me as I was a kid and got there early. I believe the 4-3 in 68 had the gates locked before kick off. Were there any more? I’m sure someone will know.

There we’re games in the 90’s when they used to close some of the pens when they were full. I was always a Pen 2 boy but sometimes we had Pen 1 and if I could I would go in there.

Occasionally it would backfire, I’d hang on and they would close Pen 2 but not open Pen 1 so I’d end up down the other end of the Kop.

I never didn’t get in though.

Very close v Everton 1968 FA Cup, running from door to door having them shut, some 'kind' gateman poked his head out only to see us leaning against the wall, dad smoking a woodbine, he lets us in, me over the top and me dad 5 bob and some fags. Lost 3-1 in Red

Never locked out BUT
In the "old days" I drove from Brum on Boxing Day to see the game v QPR I think only to arrive and it had been postponed.
Then drove to the re arranged midweek fixture to discover that it was fucking postponed again.

I queued many many times for an hour or more to get in, well before Pen's were introduced especially in the Kop........ worst queueing though was for Cup Tickets in the later stages when people even camped out overnight.
I waited for 3 hours to get final ticket for the 61, 63 and nearly as long for semi final tickets as well

That was a ticketed match Micky. Still got mine actually.

As a kid was at games where they broke the gates in, to get in. Never been locked out though, chucked out yeh, but not locked out.

Never didn't get in, closest was 97 eufa Madrid game when the club put the tickets on sale for the home game when we were in Spain supporting the team.
Nice that.
Ended up in double decker in restricted view seat at last moment.

First game I went to v Man U April 1959. City needed to win to stay up. Arrived fairly late because my dad had to work that morning. Queued up for the Kop but the gates closed before we reached them. Got in to the Popular Side but once inside couldn't get up the steps to the terrace because of the crush so went home without seeing the game. Attendance was 38,466.

Helped batter down the gates at Field Mill,Mansfield,FA Cup ‘69,arrested at Preston 69/70(juvenile court),arrested and nearly jailed at Cardiff,Jock Wallace era,Easter Court with Stipendiary Magistrate(evil bastid),skin of me teeth let off, never been locked out a match!

……Evil Stipe banned me for life from Wales but the next away game was at Wrexham so went anyway. Eddie Kelly winner, happy days!
