C'Mon - What These Owners Have Done For Us!!!

that selling a player each summer was the bedrock of our business model.
Still reckon it's a poor strategy for the reasons stated. Obviously doesn't help if you manage to get yourself relegated before one of the cornerstones of that strategy is able to deliver (i.e. a new training facility).

For me the key mistake was to let our recruitment team slip. We followed a model of getting the best young talent but they were all top price and the lesser supporting cast were not up to it along with the likes of Bertrand. I seem to remember that Lee Congerton was involved somewhere but it really all comes down to Top and his acumen on hiring and firing his management.

Certainly on the firing! Whilst many of us feared the Congerton effect I think it really comes down to the amount of power concentrated in the hands of one person. Many managers have had the backing of our respective boards over the years in terms of how they do their work and who with (if not always with the players) but I doubt any manager at the club has been given the sort of power Rodgers appears to have had. They really went all-in on him the moment he got the improved deal when Arsenal were supposedly sniffing.

Edit: And, yes, that is a problem created by the executive.
