Are you giving Vardy a new deal?

Yes of course. While he clearly can't press for 90mins like he used to, his other qualities remain intact. As an impact sub and back-up starter as and when required, he will be a very useful squad member next season. And he will continue to score goals when given minutes on the pitch. It's a no-brainer.

This needs handling with great care. This is an opportunity for a club that is generally perceived by fans of other teams to act with class. I ignore fans of teams like Burnley and Ipswich who continue to bang on about how we dodged a points deduction many years ago. (yawn).

The starting point has to be a) JV, although richly rewarded, has been a magnificent servant to the club over a period in which we have enjoyed success beyond our wildest dreams (my first game was in 1964) b) he is not going to be a regular starter next year, whatever Division we are in.

It appears that the departure of Casper was not handled well, something that was discussed here at the time. Hence the need for care. The decision should be taken by Top and Susan, Rudkin should be nowhere near it.

If it was down to me, I would give him a one year contract as the highest paid player. That recognises his past contribution. Beyond that it is a lot trickier, but I would not give him a playing contract as that would tie the hands of the Club / whoever is the Manager at the time.

The elephant in the room is, of course, the elephant he is married to.

We can talk about Vardy but then what about Albrighton he also has been a great servant to the club do we also give him another year ?
Harsh has it sounds and as much as we love them we and they have to move on at some point there is no room for sentiment in the Premier league.

The consensus seems to be that Vardy can still give us something next year, hopefully in the PL. I don't think the same can be said about Albrighton. Sentiment is a very small part of the issue if any.

Vardy has made 22 appearances this season, exactly half of them as substitute, and scored 10 goals. We could pay a fortune for a new striker who doesn't deliver that kind of return. It's not sentiment - it's a pragmatic decision based on his continued ability and the fact that our budgetary constraints mean we'll likely be prioritising other positions in the transfer market in the summer.

Is his current contract up this summer? I thought he had a year left but time does fly.

If so then yes just for one year but only play him off the bench. He would not be good enough in the big league to start very often, if at all.

His positive attitude around the club is worth keeping hold of, plus he’s a role model for the younger members of our squad.

As others have said I’d work with him to do his coaching badges too if he’ll stay and if he wants to do them.

But I wouldn’t be paying him a kings ransom. We can’t afford it. If he wants too much he can find another club.

Not for me, sadly no longer a danger to premier league defences. Build a statue. name a stand but dont throw away ÂŁ100k plus per week when we'll more than likely be at the arse end of the division needing to invest heavily.

We’ve made big errors in the past with contract extensions for sentimental reasons.
King/ morgan/ albrighton & choudhury to name a few. Saying that though god knows what the sentiment is regarding choudhury, but there you go.
So if players like that who at the time of extension were offering nothing / very little got one, then Vardy is 100% yes.

Tony Cottee was deemed over the hill when he joined but more than did a job for us. How old was Sir Les when he signed? Age is not relevant, his fitness and sharpness is what counts and he looks decent now he's had some minutes post his latest injury.

Vardy has 136 PL goals and is in the top 15 of all time. You do not throw that away lightly.

I reckon he has something to offer but at the right price. The intangible benefits he brings to the development of Cannon, Alves and others will also be worth keeping him for.
