Are you a little bit nervous about tonight?

Waaay too complex to give a definitive answer especially without 2022/23's figures (but lets say that the sales of Fofana & Maddison got us close to a relatively small loss for the season) it's all on P&L. So assuming that funding is not an issue, from an FFP perspective:

So this season likely significant losses relative to last season:
  • c£40m still represents a drop of around the same value of income on central funds from last season.
  • Other drops of income will be incurred through significantly reduced merit payments & facility fees
  • Probable reductions in sponsorships/commercial income etc.
Against that:
  • Significant reductions in salaries (not just relegation clauses but because big hitters left)
  • Significant profit on the sale of Barnes which will probably cover the reduction in PL Central fund income.
Also note that the FFP Thresholds for the rolling 3 year period covering 2021/22, 2022/23 and 2023/24 will be lower at £85m rather than £105m we were previously subject to (and don't forget before deductions we lost in excess of £90m in the first of those years) - next year too if we do get promoted the threshold will not be £105m due to a season out of the PL.

So personal opinion: I think this season we will remain constrained, probably be able to strengthen a little in January if needed. In the event that we do go up our movement of accounting period to end of June from end of May that happened last season will limit how quickly we can do business for next season but that even with a 3 year threshold of around 'only' £85m next season the removal of the financially disastrous 2021/22 figures from the next 3 year window will give us plenty of opportunity to rebuild. Ideally I am sure we'd like to be able to be PL ready if needed before the end of this season but I think unlikely. Failure to get promotion would obviously see us further constrained as parachute payments & thresholds are further reduced & potential big money asset sales are less likely.

Oh, and I think I should be worried about tonight because at the moment I am not concerned about it at all!
Thanks for the, as always, in depth answer.

Just read the Fosseway piece - excellent and disturbing. Can I take my sofa to hide behind tonight?

Then perhaps you shouldn’t read this -

It is on the money in every respect.

Tonight will be a big test as their strikers will not be as profligate as those we’ve seen previously. This game will show how good we really are.

Com’on Leicester - pass the test tonight
How dare anyone raise any doubts about our best ever run of results

Very poor tonight.
Set the tone for ourselves with a game of walking football.
Simply need much more movement and energy than what they have produced.
Don't deserve owt playing like this.
