A game of two halves

"It was an awful start to the game and that's what cost us. They were two really soft goals and we should defend better. We made it far too easy". An accurate summary by Mr. Rodgers of why we lost yesterday. We were curiously impassive from the off (is this a theme for our first half performances this season?) and it was no great surprise when the Arse scored as early and easily as they did from a depressingly familiar set piece.

If (thank you Mr. Kipling) Ramsdale hadn't made that save (The Torygraph asks "Is this the best save of the century?" and Peter Schmeichel tweeted "Best save I've seen for years") from Maddison(who was otherwise anonymous and subbed too late) then things may have turned out otherwise. Rodgers made the right subs at half time and until we ran out of steam at the end we were much more like the aggressive, attacking team we need to be. Arguably Ramsdale was man of the match so we weren't all bad.

Clearly we need to be at it from the start in all games. It ain't rocket science is it?

Keep the faith brothers and sisters!

Thank you Brian, I'm thinking of opening a boutique.

How many times has our manager come out to say that we were too passive for the first XX mins, but nothing gets sorted.

We struggle to defend dead ball situations, but nothing is done to fix this issue.

We don't look like we can score from our dead ball situations, but nothing seems to change.

What's going on at the training ground?

I think one of the key problems is there’s hardly any turn round time between matches. It’s interesting that over the last international break BR was able to take time to assimilate the problem at Palace and we were better the next couple of games.

Actuly it was more like a game of four quarters.
First 20 mins we were dreadful.
Next 25 mins we were much improved and deserved at least a goal from Madison's free kick. That was the save of the season so far.
First 25 mins of 2nd half we were pretty darn good but again their goalie was inspired.
Strangely after the substitution to bring Daka on we seemed to run out of steam and Arsenal saw the last 20 mins out pretty well.

I used to manage an under 10s team and they conceded lots of early goals.
So we introduced a new warm up - 10 minutes before kick off, circle of players passing the ball round 2 in the middle who had to win it and be as aggressive as they needed to be. It worked. They started games on fire.
This is a simple game being messed up by people who think they can add new ideas to it all the time.

My thoughts exactly Algar, becoming an all to regular theme now.

If it's a problem he needs to sort it out.

Unless, it's a cunning plan as some have suggested?

I think we gained some supporters from your lot yesterday. Many of you are wobbly with LCFC to begin with.

I'm sure more than a few will be supporting Newcastle in a couple years anyway

Point of buckin order Mr Kpbw every game has two halves
A pedant writes: "Au contraire sir. Some games still have extra time. And at the current rate I reckon some games must therefore be a game of two 3/8ths followed by two 1/8ths".

You must know what a CoatsWorth (private joke).

Rodgers wouldn’t the same without a touch of Bodgers.
Imagine how happy you’d have been if we’d won 3-2.

Okay they may have extra time but they still have two halves.
At no point did I suggest it was all they had

If the game lasts 120 minutes, then the first forty-five minutes will have been 3/8ths of the total, as will the second period of 45 minutes. So "every" game does not have two halves. Only the ones which run for ninety minutes. Which is most. But not "every".

the first time I saw Arse play we beat them 7-2. Ive always looked on them as shite ever since -- sorry

I think the Arsenal game was really about control.
They grabbed it from the start and never lost it. Even our better show after halftime was manged by Arsenal so although we looked aggressive it was always us playing to their tune. Yes we often start slowly but are often comfortable, taking the brakes off in the second half.
This time we were rumbled...
