89.7 m losses

I was just suggesting that it wasn't quite the same situation as originally discussed although, yes, the suspicion was a break of the rules. And, as you said before, whether we did or not a deal was done with the EFL (which was hardly the actions of a wholly innocent party).
We got caught then and we have been caught again

I'm not suggesting that the rules (I use that term loosely given that appear somewhat vague both then and now) are either fair or reasonable though.

But 'once bitten twice shy' seems to have been lost in our quest for sporting glory

My point was that KP may have paid £3m per year for naming rights but what would a club with an Fa Cup win and two top 5 finishes plus European football got? Surely more than £3m?
What are BCCs getting?

My take is this. There is an element of Karma here. The EFL have had points dedeuctions (see Sheep, Reading) for years and no-one bats an eyelid. Why did they bring it in? Because a club, which happens to be us, dodged a bullet by going into administration. A lot of Leicestershire organisations lost money (as did the taxpayer) as a result. And we p*ss*d off the League.

Things have now come full circle. The latest fuss is because points deductions are being used by the Premier league for the first time. They have to, financial penalties are meaningless to Man City and the Barcodes, who are owned by sovereign wealth funds.

We are in danger of p*ss*ing everyone off by the the way we are behaving at the moment, in particular all this froth about legal action. We should cooperate and take our medicine. We can still retain a bit of credit as an underdog from the title win, but that is at risk of being lost. EFL teams regard us as a BCC anyway.

And whilst playing in Europe was great, I have happy memories of away trips the year we were in Div 3.

Leaving aside that your gripe appears to have moved from the "we tried to do the same as Man City on ground naming" to having been caught by rules twice (and of course both can be true), I'd argue that the circumstances of each are very different and I don't think they should be seen in the same light whilst undeniably both result in a break in the rules as written.

As a 'crime' against football rules if you are knowingly hiding equity as revenue to artificially reduce losses (and as you say it was not exactly proven in our case a decade ago though I am not denying it looked fishy at best) it is clearly a more deliberate act compared to breaking a limit on losses made when, in theory, despite the bottom line P&L result being so large actually getting under the limit was probably achievable until quite late in the season (and, yes, beyond the winter transfer window). We (well most) can see that this was only theoretical because all else being equal it required 2 things to happen that had become mutually exclusive long before that point; not getting rid of Rodgers & team AND finishing considerably higher. It was poor management not to recognise it earlier when we still had a chance but hardly a deliberate attempt to break the rules.

The pre-World cup run of form was a big issue last season - provided false optimism that a finish around tenth or higher was still possible with the existing squad. A loss would still have been made but would have been considerably lower.

And who can forget the Newcastle game on their return when the full benefit of the winter training camp for those not on World Cup duty was revealed to the world!? The break might have interrupted a reasonable run of form but it was also a golden opportunity to right some of the failings of the pre-season. An opportunity well and truly spunked.

Golf and darts form all improved though.
The only plan Rodgers had last season was his exit plan payoff.
Best of luck to Rangers on Sunday.
