"I don't understand", a bemused Tielemans was heard to say. "I just said that The Beatles, The Liver Birds and Bread were wonderful examples of English culture and heritage and that I wanted to go to the place that gave us these national treasures. Someone has made a big mistake."

I haven't read the article but I guess the good news is that the matter seems pretty much where it was just after the PL season ended.

The thing is that when our top players have moved on it has been easy to forecast who they are and are generally missed.
Now, because of outstanding recruitment which has seen us actually thrive despite their defection, there are more than half a dozen I would regret losing. In fact it easier to identify those who would not be missed too much.
But we have to accept that a fringe of players are needed at this level to either provide cover and competition for places but are happy to be seen in those roles. This is easier for the super clubs who can offer big money to retain these men but harder for us.

The Belgian football Kristof Terreur has poured a little cold water on this rumour, too. He points out that the English media claims that 'sources in Belgium suggest Tielemans wants to move to Liverpool' but that the reports in Belgium all say that 'sources in England claim that Tielemans wants to move'. So both the British and Belgian press are citing each other as the source for the same rumour. For what it's worth, Terreur says that Tielemans is 'weighing up his options' but Liverpool have not made a move for him.

"The full circle of a rumour"

Vice versa though it can be an advantage for us if we can offer regular game time to a young talent who would merely constitute a fringe player in a BCC club.

I understand (from internet chatter, so not 100% certain) this to be the case with Patson Daka, and I am pretty sure it played a big part in attracting Youri in the first place.

With Wes Morgan gone there is also the option of elevating Youri's status to captain or vice-captain.

As mentioned in today's Merc, clubs have to submit a squad list at some point prior to season which tends to mitigate against promising youngsters. The presence of players like Perez, Amarty, Thomas and Mendy who are reliable 'fillins' is essential in a long and demanding season.
The experience of the last two seasons seems to suggest that this is the area where we miss out to those more used to these having these types of players available being a bit thin in depth.
