Worth a read

Rob Dorsett. Like the other Rob, he's one of the few journos out there who seems to actually have conversations with senior people inside the club.

I like him. He was brilliant in the week of Vichai’s death. I actually went up to him and thanked him for his professionalism in stark contrast to that BBC twat

It's not news that the owners are pursuing a different model from the big six. They have no real option.
I'm surprised that Dorsett thinks that the finance invested in the training ground could have boosted the squad.
He must know that training facilities and Academy development is outside FFP, the factor which is causing us grief at the moment.
I don't think that crowd capacity is a big factor nowadays as the big income comes from media sources
It was good to be reminded that with big money transfers there is a law of diminishing returns, you pay more for less percentage extra quality. But, as the owners realise, there is no better value than grow your own. Ask Fergie who built his own all winning dynasty.
The other thing going for us is that almost all other owners want more immediate returns.
I said on another post is it a bump in the road at the moment or the beginning of the end of the dream and remain convinced that it is the former.

Yes, I like him too. It's very noticeable that most of the journalists/pundits spouting off about our situation don't seem to actually have any contacts inside our club. Hence they listen to clubs that want our players (eg Chelsea and Newcastle), and maybe also to players' agents, and come to the conclusion that we're flat broke and are about to sell off all our major assets. Through the power of social media, this then becomes a widely-accepted view. Somebody on twitter told me a couple of days ago that "Everybody knows that Leicester need to sell at least one of their big names to survive..."

It's nice to read the perspective of somebody with more of a grip on what is actually happening.

He knows stuff because he is Sky's City man and has therefore developed in-club sources which all journos need...

He doesn't appear to have considered FFP at all (though clearly appreciates the constraints & implications of a first team squad where not everybody can play) so I assumed that he was suggesting that given the overall financial position of the football club then the board decided that investing in the infrastructure took precedence over the team rather than the impact of the Training Facility on FFP (i.e. FFP wasn't an issue though to me it seems very unlikely that it isn't). I mean, if you have £x to spend then if FFP isn't an issue there is still a question as to where you want to invest it.

And yes the Training facilities are outside of FFP because the costs are capitalised so do not impact P&L on which FFP is based (well depreciation does impact P&L but that is an explicit exclusion from FFP).

Still, a decent read as it is at least a little more considered than most. Or at least, if others I've read feel like a case of 2+2=5 this at least feels more like 2+2=4.5 (well, 4.1).

Agreed a good read. The thing is the Seagrave move was planned years ago and long term finance arranged so its relation to todays' apparent difficulties is not likely to be very much, bit like looking at your electric bill when liquidity is tight...

Indeed. The most significant impact on P&L is likely to be interest on the various loans (to banks & to the KP Group) used to finance our various activities but what is paid is not only related to the Training Ground.

It's a shame are local click bait, sorry, newspaper, can't do the same instead of regurgitating unfounded bollocks.

Great piece but not sure I agree with the 'standing still' sentiment. A settled, focussed squad with quality players can still be progressive. Change is not always good
