Here is the alternative reality that could have played out at Leicester. The club is honest about the financial implications of FFP, cuts cloth accordingly, and makes realistic plans for transfer targets.
Instead, the powers that be hid all this from Rodgers, when he had numerous contracts lined up only to be told at the start of pre-season to then be told to forget it all. The club obviously hid it from Rodgers, as they were fearful he would walk out. This leads to learned helplessness and a big 2 fingers from Rodgers saying ok, well this will be a shit show, pay me off and I will go.
General apathy runs through the club like wild ostriches. This brings us to the shit show in which we find ourselves now.
Rodgers deserves a large chunk of the blame. But others are also culpable, failure to move on out-of-contract players and free up funds is also a large reason why we couldn't strengthen in the summer.
Now Wolves have been upfront with Lopetegui, it will be interesting to see if they figure out a strategy that keeps them up.
