Well This Is What You Voted For

Dover.
What did you expect the Frogs to do?
Make crossing the Channel easy?
Dream on.
The Frogs were very happy to have smooth Channel crossings 1914-1918, 1940 and 1944.

Of course in 1940 we lifted loads of French soldiers off the beaches of Dunkirk who promptly decided to go home rather than to fight for France from abroad.

France still hadn’t fallen when they were evacuated - the majority were ordered to return to France to continue its defence in France ‘rather than fight for France from abroad’

When in doubt mention it's because the Brits left the EU, and so it's the Brits fault.

Let me tell you something. I travelled Europe for the last 30 years. I cross EU to Non-EU borders and back again many, many times. Switzerland, Serbia, Norway, Ukraine and, years ago the countries that hadn't then joined the EU from the Baltic down to the Mediterranean. There wasnt any problem. It was easy.

As Soho asks here, what did you expect the French to do? Be political on purpose?

You’re right of course ... but by leaving the EU we have enabled France to take back control of its borders.

And instead of largely waving people through they now check passports and goods. They are entitled to do that because of Brexit. And by the looks of things can decide to be awkward merd sacs.

Be interesting to see what would happen if we reduced the 800 customs staff sent to France to manage our controls there. How would the French react to similar chaos their side of the channel.

The French claimed there had been technical problems.
Could be a similar problem getting into this country as it’s nearly al done with scanners now rather than a customs officer. I’ve had to wait 45 minutes plus to get through before and that’s with everything working.

Without getting arse deep in the Brexit argument, I have always been a great believer in 'reciprocity' in the way that one government deals with another.

In this instance if one country wishes to implement border controls in a certain way towards us, then we do exactly the same towards them.

We did, we voted to leave the EU to take control of our borders and let other countries take control of theirs without interference. Taking back control was the tag line that won it. I don’t care any more, it is what it is, no doubt there’s pros and cons for both arguments. But those that voted leave should suck it up.

You mean keeping the same staffing levels for border checks as the French have done? That sounds fair.

In fact, let’s not even do that because a sense of entitlement means we can blame anyone or anything for issues, even if they are of our own doing.

Funny how “taking back control of our borders” doesn’t apply to any other country.

So they’ve only just decided to take back control then? Whether it‘s air traffic controller’s on strike, protesting fishermen, farmers hijacking lorries lamb, custom officials being bloody minded or just allowing illegal immigrants to run riot they’re a nation of awkward cunts who take any and every opportunity fuck us over.
Next time you buy French produce keep this shit in mind

A baguette & brie boycott - that’s what we need.

Ooh naughty frenchies standing up for their rights.

You are conflating 'saying that we are going to do something' with actually doing something

No problem with that. We simply need to do the same.

At some point people will realise that we are still being 'run' by the EU and paying handsomely for the privilege. At no point since 2014 have we stood up as a sovereign country and done what is best for us. The current government/establishment wishes to solve the current issues, (entirely of there own making), by bringing us back into the single market/customs union (though they will call it something else) and paying even more money for the privilege.

We will be an 'EU trading partner', having to abide by all their rules, that we have no say in making.

Because everyone knows that not continuing to have a significant connection with them is the equivalent of being up shit creek without a paddle, a canoe or a lifejacket.

That's why there was no plan in place set by any of those in charge of the 'Leave' campaign. The lure of power for looking to deliver the "will of the people" was too much for the Tories. Too much emotion & misguided jingoism, & not enough substance or detail - the latter not a surprise with Johnson at the helm.

Even Starmer has said Labour have no intention of joining a single market so it’s somewhat paranoid to claim the current government will.
As an ‘EU trading partner’ of course you have no say in the rules you are expected to abide by. That’s what Brexit means.
