Well There's 90 Mins Of My Life

England have only fleetingly performed like a top team for most of the years I have followed football.
The 90 and 96 semi finals were tough on us, we played pretty decent against the Germans on both occasions. The 4-1 against the Dutch, and the 2004 Croatia game are extremely meagre pickings for what as been 40-50 years of dross.
I don't hardly recall us playing really well in two consecutive tournament games, that's probably an indicator that we always flatter to deceive

The FA Puppet is more concerned about players being booed for taking the knee!!!!
Well don't do it prat, try playing football and do what your paid for .because that was fkn garbage and Austria should have won .

1990 and 1996 were definitely the high points since '66. I also liked the '98 World Cup team though. There was flair in that team but they had a bit of steel too. I've always felt we could have gone far into that tournament if Beckham hadn't decided to play footsie with Simeone right in front of the ref...

Get through the group stage after boring Europe with 8 defensive minded players, go out in the quarters when we meet a half decent team.
Southgate Out.
Gerrard in.
Win World cup in Qatar.

The reason they fear decent opposition is that technically they are some way behind their opponents, personally and tacticly.
It is improving a bit but so have all the others. Just ask yourself why British players are not in demand abroad.
GS's cautious approach is because he knows this. We were promised an improvement when St. Georges Park was opened but the main talent coming through seems to be from club academies.
PS They were Germans.

Weller and Worthington 12 caps between em ...Glover never picked ...... Gazza and Glenda only 100 caps between em tells it own sorry Story .

Although at the last World Cup we were more entertaining than usual, it was clear that our old tactical/psychological failings have not gone away. We played three games against strong opposition - Belgium twice and Croatia. We lost all three of them. In the Croatia game we looked ok until Modric and co started to dominate the midfield. After that, we just retreated further and further into our shells until the inevitable happened. It's partly tactics, but also character - a lot of our players just seem to crumble when the going gets tough. It will be interesting to see whether Mount, Foden and Grealish et al can buck this trend.
Tactics and mental strength - this is what I also perceive as the two major flaws of the England team! And it's those two that seem to decide the games against strong opposition.

England often qualifies for the tournaments easily but then often don't go far at the tournament itself. However, the (often) successful qualifying rounds indicate there is often a decent team or squad in there somewhere.

A few examples:

In 2010 (World Cup), 27 points from ten games. Lost to Germany in the round of the last 16.

EURO 2016, 30 points from ten games!! Went out to Iceland in the round of the last 16 though.

In 2018 (World Cup), 26 points from ten games. Sucessful WC, semifinals. Odd one out, or a step in the right direction?

most of the time the manager/coach says he will take form players from any club, but always reverts to taking name players from big clubs.
Look at this squad, both maguire and henderson are currently injured and can't play/gel in the friendlies.
There are players just as good if not better who are perfectly fit.
Remember Rooney's broken foot?
Remember taking a teenager who never played a single minute?
The '66 squad wasn't the best individual 11, but it was the best team.
The modern coach wants to take the best players and somehow shoehorn them into a team.
They never learn.
and we've just lost TAA.

There is a school of thought from some other parts of the UK that perhaps the players are actually not as good as say Sky, BBC, the media make them out to be.

As it goes I backed England at the last World Cup as the rest of the so called big teams looked weak.

I've never felt so disengaged from the England set up ever.
Mind you I've rarely felt involved with the England thing in the last 70 odd years.
Fuck them.
A complete waste of time.

The first world cup I can recall is 1974, Gerd Muller.
1978, aged 12 supported Scotland. Archie Gemmil & Johnny Rep, Mario Kempe's.
'82 Spain, I can't recall much. Bryan Robson scored in seconds,.we were a bit shit I think...Brooking & Keegan.
86, staying up to watch the games. We all know what happened there.
Italia 90,Schillachi, lineker, gazza.
USA 94, obviously we weren't there but Diana Ross missed a penno & the final was boring...Ireland beat Italy.
France 98, we had a good team should have gone further & my first tournament in the flesh.
Japan 2002 was the footballing trip of a lifetime for me. Beating Argentina in a baseball stadium the highlight.
Germany 2006, my last trip I can recall the nights out more than the football( Ronaldo winked)
I lost interest after that, 2010,.2014. Brazil ,South Africa? Can't remember to be honest, though Lampard had one chalked off against the Germans. We still got thrashed though.
Having rambled on, the Euros are a bit of a blur. I can only recall 96,.2000 & 2004. We didn't make 2008 I think, the others, Ukraine & France held them at some time.

I can’t even contemplate it mate. Every time I do I have to have a word with myself, I’ve accepted we're destined to do nothing other than cause maximum frustration and embarrassment when facing your boys.
Scotland will just have to stand there and watch as England shuffle it backwards and forwards and unless he actually plays someone like Grealish, unlikely though.

3 years ago was brilliant really.
We didn’t win anything ultimately but what a buzz there was about the place. Nice to see people United after we’ve had such a divisive recent history. Be interesting to see if that’s even partially replicated this summer.
Plenty enough talent in this country that a competent leader might get a tune out of. Sadly we’ll be reduced to yes men leaders forever I suspect after the Allardyce debacle.. Look at the under 21s they still have that useless cunt Boothroyd presiding over failure after failure just as the main team did with Hodgson.

I went to every England home game for 3 years followed them away but not anymore seem so distant from the average footall fan ... fuck um Leicester's my Team ..

Didn't watch either game.

Springwatch was on during the week, and I forgot yesterday.

It would appear I haven't missed anything!

Henderson looked knackered after 15 mins and missed a pen, ward-prowse was nimble and quick and delivered a killer dead ball.
I know they're not exactly the same type of player but guess which one's going to the euro's?
