How would you find out who is in the shadows?
They wouldn't publicise their work.

It should come as no surprise that a man who befriended mafia crime families should use their tactics in business. He's doing tariffs like a protection racket shakedown. He's already got 4 domestic law firms to fold like a cheap suit and offer him free legal work by threatening to put them out of business.

Don't need to. Owners are returning them in record numbers. Why do you think trump did free car advert in front of the Whitehouse for him? They'll be gathering dust in a parking lot somewhere like DeLoreans in the 1980s.

He's not encouraging americans to buy american. if you don't make something or grow something domestically you can't buy them even if the cost of importing them goes up can you?
As What? said, it would take years (as many experts have said) to ramp up production or clear acreage to grow stuff.
It's just a shakedown.

There is a 25% tariff on cars exported from UK to US. There is a 10% tariff on cars exported the other way, although the market is tiny (how many people do you know who drive America cars...they are too big for our car parks!!)

There is a 10% tariff on everything else exported from UK to US. Gong the other way there are variable tariffs on other stuff coming from US to UK, but I read they are pretty low.

The one "tariff" that does seem to annoy trump is our flat rate 20% VAT but that applies to everything, not just US products.

The UK average tariff on imported US goods is 3.8%.

As I understand it the US (and I think this precedes the present administration) is concerned with the treatment of the US agricultural sector, not so much a tariff issue as a regulatory one (i.e. banned substances etc).
