This week I have mainly been watching

Half Man. written and starring the man who wrote Baby Reindeer. Nothing like that though, some horrible violence, messed up lives and roxi relationships. *TRIGGER WARNING* For those of delicate disposition, some gayness on screen.

I have never watched Wallander, the English version with Kenneth Branagh ( who I’ve never really liked ) or any of the Swedish versions.
But, I’ve just watched the first series of Young Wallander, and, I quite enjoyed it. I shall watch the second series in the next couple of days.

Dear England , that Joseph bloke could turn up at Gareth’s house and it would be like that film with Roger Moore , the man who haunted himself ….. thought micheal sheen and Gary oldman plus John hurt could become the characters but I thought this was off the scale for the look , voice and mannerisms 👍 he also even managed to miss that f penalty again and again an……..etc 🫣🙈😂

i found wallander relentlessy grim and depressing. But i soldiered through.

I have now watched both series of Young Wallander, and as much as I enjoyed the first series, the second series wasn’t as good, and I agree, it was a bit more depressing and, it got a bit too slow and predictable.

As I am relentlessly grim and depressing I always found both the original and the Branagh version delightfully engaging. Not seen owt of the "Young Wallander" though.
i think the 'policeman who does the job to the exclusion of all else and gets divorced/widowed and/or doesn't get on with kids/parent and/or is an alcoholic' trope is getting a tad tiresome though.

Probably but it's a good 10 years since I watched them and I don't watch that many dramas on TV (which is why I don't contribute to this thread very much).

Has anybody else watched The End of the F***ing World ?
2 Series of eight short episodes each .
Just started it tonight, quirky but I think I like it.

Also loved it. The showrunner went on to do a netflix series about greek gods called Kaos, last year i think. Huge budget, we really enjoyed it, but it was cancelled after one series. 🙄

Southland - somebody recommended it and I am pleased they did.

Brilliant LA police drama which I had never heard of, five seasons filmed (on hand held camera) between 2009 and 2013

Great action and properly developed characters.

Did you ever watch "the Wire"?

I enjoyed the original and young wallander.

I stop watching TV during the summer and stop using the internet so much ;-) so I'll need to get back to you in September with my latest finds!

I enjoyed the original and young wallander.
Talking of those what did you think to "van der valk" original and modern. The original was much of his time - I liked it but not sure I would now. The new one is grittier and I really like the main character. My wife doesn't.

Bergerac original and now? Original great, now pretty poor but would have stood up okay as a completely different copper.

Morse and Endeavour - both classics and Endeavour is one of the best.

Prime suspect - original good, modern really terrible.

I discovered The Old Man on Disney+ with Jeff Bridges and John Lithgow. Brilliant. Best thing since Slow Horses! Second series even better than the first.
Really liked it. Shame they stopped after the second (or was it third) series.

They stopped it after the 2nd series, because of so many delays during production.
Delays because of COVID, strikes etc apparently meant people lost interest !!!
