It's a false argument top fox. We could all tinker at the edges off our own back...miss a few flights a year, drive a bit less, eat differently etc etc ....but it won't make any meaningful difference.

what's needed is structural change (e.g. banning diesel cars from 2030). Until governments legislate wholesale change there's not a lot we can do as individuals, the world just isn't structured that way.
And I'm not just talking just UK government, but on a global level. Such a difficult thing to achieve.

Politicians are only in the game for the short term (3 PM's in as many years tells you that) so what incentive is there for them to legislate unpopular things today for something that will be of benefit in 10 years time....

Depressing really.

Do please enlighten us all about all that you're doing to mitigate climate change? I'm sure we can all learn from your inspiring examples of lifestyle changes and selfless decision-making for the planet's greater good.
Have you stopped taking needless leisure flights? Never buy fruit and veg that's been flown in? Have a super-insulated loft and exterior walls at home? Heat pump rather than a ghastly gas or oil boiler, natch? An electric car must be a cert? A whole family of fervent cyclists, merrily whizzing along the road like ducklings following their parents? Never leave any appliances on standby? Follow a strictly vegan diet but without lowering yourself to consuming any of the energy-heavy processed foods? Ensure that none of your savings and pension are ever invested in anything remotely unsustainable?
I for one would love to know, and genuinely applaud you for being so conscientious. And I'd particularly commend the way you manage to have time left over to come on here and be so vehement about others' inaction.
well said ! they're all hypocritical sheep !

The thing is, there are plenty of people who are talking the talk, but also walking the walk. I know XR people who are actually doing something practical in their families' lives - whilst recognising that it's a bit like rearranging the chairs on the titanic - because they say they'd feel like hypocritical cunts for taking your view. ie claiming that they have to wait for others to force them to make changes. That really is bollocks.
I'm waiting to be forced, sure. That's just me, at my stage of life, with my income. But I don't carp on about how dreadful other people are on messageboards, posting cartoons of ostriches and saying blah blah blah

More hyperbole. Who's carping on about how "dreadful" other people are? I'm presenting an alternative view. We can all do more to help and I think if everyone made changes to their lifestyle it would make some difference. However, as has been posted above, wholesale changes are needed to make a major difference. Some are in denial this is a necessity, I'm not.

The world revolves around change, man
made or natural, weather patterns change
Living standards change, invoiroments change...... its life
By the way one country changing its habits
Whether forced to or not won't change anything unless the whole world does the same, but the chances of that are nil

But it seems your happy to do fuck all about it? Just "present an alternative view" on a messageboard. Well done you.

It was minus 1 when I rode to work in Melbourne this morning. I gave up after 8kms, bought a large coffee and got on the train!

Of course you are.
We all know other hypocrites like you, and can now pay appropriately little attention to the bollocks you merrily spout.
Don't do as I do, do as I say.
Thanks for clarifying. (y)
You've completely gone off at a tangent to try to prove a point. Nowhere have I criticised or been "carping on about "dreadful" other people". Merely presented an alternative view to those who think climate change doesn't exist. Crack on making stuff up though, the usual people love an opportunity to jump on someone else's coat tails.
