This 'ere new vaccine

It's a major hospital in a city of about 9 million people; a city where, before Christmas, for example, people were seen in their hundreds, if not thousands, out in Oxford Street, not giving a flying one about keeping their distance. The results are hardly surprising. You don't see Fergus Walsh and the BBC also visiting a less busy hospital, in order to give a balanced perspective, do you ? That wouldn't make for such drama.

I wasn't talking to you, you've made it clear over recent months that that would be a waste of time.

I was talking to Dorset as he said lots of people aren't dying, and that covid is akin to flu. I'm hoping he'll watch and try and recall a time when flu wards expand into operating theatres, and led to cancellation of routine heart treatments.

On the day another 1000 people are added to the toll - and I know you don't approve of mainstream media - but can I urge you to watch the special report on BBC news tonight from the London hospital intensive care unit. It's linked below.

I deliberately said dying of covid, not dying with covid.

Thousands of people die every day, test enough of them often enough and you can get whatever numbers you want.

The NHS is always under acute pressure at peak 'winter flu' season. Made even worse this year by closing down and not treating genuinely ill patients for months, not treating actual covid patients with drugs that actually help and having substantial numbers of staff 'self isolating' at home.

I am pretty sure that using operating theatres as emergency covid wards is propaganda,

Covid is not influenza, I never said that it was, it is a 'seasonal virus' that until the last twelve months would simply have been included in the figures for so called seasonal flu.

A waste of time because you don't agree ? What exactly don't you agree with ?

Yes.
Your world view.

Edit: apologies, that wasn't fair. I'll try and do a proper response in the morning when I have more time. Going bed now.

That would make perfect sense if loads of people were dying of covid.

They are not.
They’re playing the long game. The hope is that the anti-vax movement gains enough momentum from anti-coronavirus vaccine sentiment to convince more people to refuse vaccines for future pandemics - including the big one in a couple of years’ time. If enough people refuse vaccines for the 2023 pandemic, the world’s population will be culled without the need for gas chambers or sterilisation injections.

Your original post was clearly driven by some strongly held beliefs and, for all I know, maybe even a personal matter related to Covid, so I can understand my response might not have been well received. It wasn't aimed at you personally by the way and I agree about the impact on other treatments. That's part of a broader issue. Also, clearly, it's horrendous to see all the suffering.

I just have a bit of a beef about the BBC's coverage, for example. I know that's how these things work but it does not necessarily provide a balanced view of what's happening across the country. Also, the huge crowds out in Oxford St., for example, clearly don't help.

As for other stuff, well I try to keep up to speed and I tend to take note of the likes of Heneghan, Gupta and Spector, rather than Ferguson, with his Fortran models and Sage with their inaccurate daily death forecasts.
