My generation remember Gordon Brown effectively creating a new class of people by disincentivising work through benefits.

Thats why only the public sector votes Labour at all in my age category.

and yet, if you look at the last 30 years, the best economic times were in the first session of the Blair govt.
1990-97 was the last gasp of Thatchers policies which never recovered from Black Monday and Black Wednesday, once blair went and the world financial meltdown of 2008, Brown and co were doomed, and we've had 11 years of Tory austerity from 2010, which somehow still manages to shower magical money on their friends whilst other people have to go to food banks.

If you remember, despite the problems in the far east economies at the time, Ken Clarke handed over a fine hand of cards in '97, that even Brown took a while to fuck up.

Because in 92 when they expected to lose and had run down the economy they had to do something.
