The TUC and Labour

The Torys have set the country back.
Labour before them ended up being wicked due to an out of control benefit system.

Both got far too comfortable in power.
And we have to take some of the blame because we let them. Be were too busy being all right Jack and maybe that’s the problem now, although I’d say tax evasion far outweighed benefit fraud.

I’m not talking about benefit fraud.

Under Blair and Brown they put a system in place that made it unaffordable for a section of the population to work as it would have meant less money for them.

That fucked a generations life chances. Totally wicked.

Yeah, don’t forget working credits whereby companies like Tesco pay workers not enough to live on so their staff claim working credit that we pay for but can afford to pay their shareholders millions. Not an issue if it’s a small business or a new business establishing itself but multi nationals takes the piss.

We shouldn't get too hung up on shareholders, they're only people investing in companies it's not much difference to getting interest on savings.
We should be taxing the profits at a higher rate of companies who's employees need tax credits

I think we should get hung up on share holders. We keep getting battered about ethical choices, be it what we eat, drink, wear, where we keep our money and who and what they invest in. Some company’s actually use it as a “selling point” to promote themselves and gain customers etc. Yet it’s just as unethical investing in companies who don’t pay a living wage to their employees (you have to accept they don’t pay a living wage otherwise they wouldn’t get the family tax credits) and expect healthy returns on your investment. Looking closer to home to assist our own ain't trendy though.

Maybe if companies profits were taxed to pay for the subsidies we give to people on low wages they wouldn't be so attractive to share holders

Companies ability to use the minimum/living wage should be based on their profitability

Fucking shareholders in organisations that we used to own and that the Tories sold off, without any compensation to the taxpayer.
In many cases the benefit to the taxpayer was not having to subsidise these companies staggering levels if inefficiency

I can't really remember that well but I do have a recollection of people complaining about the cost of water and hose pipe bans.

Losses v People

Compensated for what?

Nationalised industries were ours.
They were sold from under our feet. Without compensation.
To line the pockets of already rich men.
Now they are protecting profit and passing on price rises to the taxpayers.
The price cap on energy companies was increased, rather than reducing profits.

If you're happy to see people starve and unable to heat their homes while the wealthy take a share and squirrel it away offshore, then crack on...

I think something like 70% of our water is foreign owned.

Shareholders, the incredibly wealthy, banks, hedge funds, foreign governments and businesses based in tax havens have siphoned billions of the water companies.

Since privatisation of water , bills have risen 40% above inflation.

Taking back control.

Economic illiteracy

I have always thought that privatisation of the utilities was a dangerous thing to do. The problem was way back then that many of the nationalised companies were basket cases and were sucking the life out of the economy. The wave of privatisation was a result of peoples frustration with over exuberant unions, appalling and lazy leadership and the “make a quick buck” mentality. To take a charitable view of the policy I think the Tories expected lots of the small share holders to keep their shares and in turn put pressure on the crap and idle management of these companies to do the jobs properly. History tells us they were wrong.
The utilities needed a shake up, it’s odd that the equally vital fuel suppliers have never been put forward as good prospects for nationalisation maybe because they’ve always been run as proficient and profitable entities.
To compare today’s water companies with those of way back is a tad unfair because they now have to contend with increased energy charges, environment responsibilities and employee costs but clearly (as with energy companies) they do have a remarkable knack of shooting themselves up the arse in terms of public relations. We need a strong PM to now make these arseholes face up to their social responsibility or pay the price. No doubt there is far more to all of this than we peasants are allowed to know but it really is time for action

You can only privatise it when it is owned by the Government

Socialism is bad.

But it's OK when it's corporate socialism, subsiding these companies with taxpayers' money. Same with the £400 fuel payment, it's just a subsidy for the comapnies' profits.
