The End of an era

I hate modelling stuff that is still there. The half finished KP Stadium came very close to appearing on 'Models Under The Hammer'. Anyway I doubt I could find an apprentice willing to have his right arm off

Micky, you know the roof lights on the Filbert street/Popular corner, when was they installed ?

I've sat on both them roofs as a kid and l can only think they went in in the '70's when they did the boxes. The tent must have been around that. time as well ?

I've only got an aerial pic of Filbert Street taken in 1971 and the roof lights were there then

The Pop had its first roof in 1939. Bentley's Roof must have been full, for the first game against Leeds.

This photo claims to be part of the construction of the Pop Side roof. Doesn't look right to me?

The team with pickaxes were sent into the Popular Side the morning after the League match with Sunderland in 1969. I lost 1s3d from my trouser pockets jumping up and down after Ally Brown’s second goal and my Dad lost his John Bull cycle repair kit.

If only they had built the pitch a bit further west and a bit further south - we would never have needed to move form Filbert Street.

We had a little period when we'd stand in that corner bit, l think it then became the family area, at some point anyway. It was the most popular place for away fans to go at one time as well.

Pretty sure that the Filbert street end roof was moved from the top when the double decker was built.
