The day democracy died

What?

Roofer
When people started spraying graffiti, smashing things up, closing roads, climbing on buildings, entering places illegally and pulling statues down it played right into the governments hands

What?

Roofer
Vast majority of protests pass off peacefully, you're falling for tory bullshit. All of the above were already illegal, just had to use current legislation.
I'm not falling for anything, every news outlet reported it. The police seem to think it's their job to facilitate people blocking roads so clearly they didn't know the laws

I didn't say those events never happened, just that the news outlets don't bother to in depth reports on peaceful protests. There's probably a fai few every week in London, you don't hear about them because nobody kicked off.

I don't know what the new law is, however I would always avoid damaging other peoples property.
The vast majority of protestors don't damage other peoples property. Just because you've seen a few idiots being filmed doesn't mean every protest ends up the same way.

Does the new law prevent these from happening?

I think you've inadvertently hit the nail on the head though. Violence, criminal damage and being a pain in the arse get noticed by the media and the law makers

Nothing inadverdent about it.

But enough protests have caused chaos to give the government the excuse to change the rules

This government would have found the Brexit protestor enough of an excuse to push through these chab=nges to the rules. It's all about divide and conquer, see the misinformation they pump out about anyone who has the cheek to strike.

Quite right, but they're not the only ones that uses misinformation to further their arguments
As a football fan you should know how it works and give protestors the benefit of doubt.
Maybe once but not the number of times people have glued themselves to the roads around London

Brexit guy is not damaging - and to best of my knowledge never has damaged - other peoples property.

Yet he is no longer able to protest.

How, in a democracy, can that be right?

His cause is clearly not for every one, but sooner or later there will be something you feel does need protesting against...and it's too late.

The Brexit guy has been brought in right at the end of the thread and was not what we were originally talking about.

On the face of it he has every right to protest but the information we have seen is rather limited so I'll try to find out a little more before I comment

Re read my OP. Brexit man is exactly what I was originally talking about.

I don’t understand, who is telling him he can’t protest? He’s outside the Houses of Parliament there are always police officers there and unfortunately because there are looneys around the police have to be there to keep an eye on things.

What BS? As far as I can see no one in that film is telling him to stop protesting. I haven’t been to London for years so I don’t know how this chap behaves most of the time. If and it’s a big if, he is abusing people then there’s little wonder people don’t like it

It’s rather odd that he’s talking to the police about his democratic rights whilst protesting about a democratic decision by the UK people

They took his speakers off him.

"It’s rather odd that he’s talking to the police about his democratic rights whilst protesting about a democratic decision by the UK people"

He wasn't trying to get anyone arrested for their decision, he was exercising his right to protest against it.

How do you know they took his speakers off him? Was he arrested?

I’m making an assumption here but if he’s been shouting / abusing people through amplified speakers for a long period do you think that’s a reasonable way to behave?

Come on rino. The first post is all about the Brexit loon, and the new powers that the police and crime bill 2022 have brought in that limit any protest deemed "annoying".

And despite you having zero idea about any of it, you post about 10 times in the thread? Now I hate to sound like the "do your own research" brigade, but a basic understanding of the news would help...
