The Dago Poof Is Doing Well

Soho. Is this story actually true ? As a fan of Esteban and no fan of NFP I could believe that it IS true, but it looks to me like an example of the big lie theory. While on the subject of legends, do you know why Ken Leek was dropped for the 1961 Cup Final ?
I might be wrong on this one, but I heard that a Leicester player around that time was having a relationship with one of the clubs hierarchies daughter, and was warned off on more than one occasion.
Failing to listen to the warnings led to further action being taken.

I overheard conversations my father had with several people, where he recounted that Leek was having extra-marital relations with another player's wife. It all came to a head when the offended player marched into Gillies' office, deliberately too late to allow reflective time, and delivered a 'me-or-him' ultimatum. The manager, harbouring national empathy, sided with the Scottish defender and duly axed the Welshman.

The old fella was convinced to the end of his days that his sources had been 100% correct. Never found out who they were, though. Whoever they were, they supplied him with Cup Final tx every year, and even a World Cup Final tkt in '66, so he was well connected. If I had to speculate I would guess at possibly a director of LCFC who was in, or close to the timber / building trades, or construction.

BLUE ARMY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A quick look at who played in the FAC final sees three Scots, one aged 18, Frank McLintock in midfield and one Scottish defender - Ian King.
I should write detective stories. Oh, I already do... :)

Why did I say bizarre?
We are led to believe that a player was dropped from a cup final because pressure was brought on the manager to penalise him for being over familiar with a fellow player's wife.
The manager in question was Matt Gillies who was a model of professionalism and the story is an insult to his reputation as it is hard to believe that he would have allowed any employee to dictate terms with a major trophy at stake. The inclusion of the lady in the story is also deemed to be of little concern and few men tend to make known their wive's indiscretions.
The buzz at the time was that the Spurs dressing room were delighted as they regarded Leek as their only real threat.

On the other hand, the idea that drink was the culprit at the time seemed believable as Gilles was a strict disciplniarian and fitted well into the temperance model still alive in the club at the time. A liking for a shandy or two is still not far from the surface in today's game.

Does it matter now, sixty years later? Probably not but the circumstances retain a fascination a bit like the death of a certain president around that time and the axe murder now in the news; passing time seems to add to that.

Fuckin' hell! It's Arthur Conan Doyle. You were certainly quick out of the traps there. It only took you 4 and a half hours to work that one out.

Sousa has the largest technical area in world football to walk around (unofficially) and he still can’t stay within it.
Book him.
