The Brendan match plan

It seems to me (and Millwall seems to prove it) that our usual match strategy is that we use the first half to lay the groundwork for the second half. Which explains our modest number of efforts on goal.
Dean Hammond said on LCFC radio commentary that he/we would expect Millwall's concentration and energy levels to decline near the end after chasing after our possession and so it proved.
Of course scoring first, in whichever half, pulls the opponent on to the front foot and opens the game up offering space for our pacy lads.
So, if seen in this light, then the halftime pessimism last night was not justified as it was only half way through a well thought out plan.
Will see if Burnley follows this pattern.
Incidently, Hammond was a first class summariser, probably the best I have heard...

We could/ should have been a couple down at halftime.
Our first half offensive highlights consisted of a blazed over the bar free kick & a cross from dewsbury hall that went out for a goal kick.
It was pathetic, no way of dressing it up.

Half time score - 0-0. First half of job done. Nothing to dress up, everyone knows they, roared on by a hostile support, will try to intimidate visitors. We were not bullied. As Hammond said, Millwall will play themselves out and our quality will then do the job...
It's called tactics.

Makes us sound like Guardiolas Barcelona.

The BBC report ( MSM I know) said there was just

2 saves in 90 mins, & one of them was their keepers parry to Lookman.
No one was expecting a gungo ho approach, but The first half showed a complete lack of creativity I thought.

It was not about creativity it was about control in a hostile environment, see my first para.
As Shankley once said, show them who is stronger and then show your quality.
I bet we use the same approach v Burnley for the same reasons...

Really?

West Ham =
  • Benrahma (56'minutes),
  • Antonio (80'minutes, 84'minutes)
Man City =
  • Bernardo Silva (62'minutes)
Napoli =
  • Osimhen (69'minutes, 87'minutes)
Brighton =
  • Welbeck (50'minutes)

Need to change the strategy I reckon.

Sorry Oadlad, cant have it. If thats Brendons regular game plan, it hasnt been right successful for quite some time.

Control??
They had 4 efforts to our 1 in the first half.
Having the ball in our possession for a longer period than the opposition doesn’t automatically mean your in control & we certainly were not.

Thought we'd played that way for much of last season, it's also the way that Southgate gets England to play.
Bored into submission.

For the past two seasons we started out with very high intensity and play and we ultimately fell at the end. I think the plan this season is to start off slowly and increase intensity as the season progresses.

Well we fall away at the end because we won't be challenging got top 4 if we continue this way.

It's a risky strategy if it is a deliberate tactic. We're always risking letting the opposition have more efforts on goal and upping the intensity after being at least one goal down.

I don't understand any of this.High intensity appears to be a euphemism for winning games. Ditto starting off slowly for losing them

Let's make a judgement after a few more games. We should really have beaten Brighton but we were robbed.

He's been sussed be gone soon.
Hope I stay awake long enough tomorrow.
Try and break Burnley down, lull them into a coma then strike, trouble is all the crowd will be asleep.L
