The Athletic

This is at the top of FT:
Please do not post any article from the Athletic on here, they have requested posts to be removed numerous times and its a breach of UK copyright laws by copying it onto this website.

Be careful or Micky may be getting a threatening email from 'Sue, Grabbit, and Runne.'

Noted.
I wonder if that's about the posting of links, which I guess might be easier for them to trace, than paragraphs embedded in individual posts on here?
I'll write a few more of my own well-considered opinions on here instead ;)

Aside from it being hard to see how posting links breaks copyright law, I imagine The Athletic would not be unhappy about any links driving potential business their way as opposed to someone copying whole tracts of text that may in their view remove the need to do so.

People only do that to get round the paywall. I subscribe as a result of reading c&p'd stuff elsewhere.
I would love to know how they find c&p'd stuff on somewhere like Foxes Talk, or here – do they really trawl through every site manually?

It is very easy to trace use of your work on the internet. They only have to paste a portion of the article in something like Google Alerts.

I do not look at Foxes Talk, so I do not know if it is full of cut and pastes from the Athletic or not. I do know that the appearances of the Athletic here are relatively infrequent, and as such might make readers more likely to become subscribers. Which would be good for the Athletic. I am sure that if Micky got any complaints from Sue Grabbit and Runne or their ilk he would let us know.

I suppose it's a bit like schools and universities checking for plagiarism.

if an article is pasted on a different site (e.g. reddit), does anyone know if linking to that is an issue?
