The Ashes

Can't wait. Looking like we might actually have a chance this time with a fragile looking Aussie batting line up and a weakened bowling attack to start. I fear for our fragile bowlers and the hard wickets but we have gone for a decent pace attack. Root is due his first century on Aussie soil, and if we don't go all out Bazball we're definitely in with a shout.

It’ll be great , the Aussies will still find something from somewhere if they are struggling by their standards …look at 2005 when we finally got the ashes back with a fantastic team …even though they had won here 89 -2001 I still thought the way they dug in here that year was incredible. And yes root is due one clubook👍

Root hardly set the world alight in the sole warm up game.

I can’t wait for it to begin. Whilst I’d love to see the first ball of the series I’m more likely to set my alarm for lunch and have an early start on Friday.

The wickets have changed somewhat in Oz over the last few years, it will be interesting to see what they prepare, Starc is calling for green tops , but the money men won’t like that.

A few months ago I thought it would 5-0 due to their bowling attack on hard wickets.
Now I am not sure.
Let's hope their main strike bowlers take longer to recover and Root gets that elusive ton.

Well England playing like they have no fucking respect for test cricket bazball is a utter joke austraila will win 5 nil if they carry on with these tactics

The first knee jerk reaction of the series. Well done me duck!

To be fair, there's nothing knee jerk about pointing out that England are mainly one-club-golfers. If we're lucky, Australia will prove to be equally so.
Whilst I don't advocate a return to a team full of Tavares, I do favour a team who can play more than one way.

Not been the same since Tavare and Sir Geoff retired

Nonsense. There were some decent players in many England teams over the past few decades, but now it's crash bang wallop or nothing.
Of course they'll get lucky on some occasions, but it's fucking brainless more often.

I think (hope) after the first innings they will realise Bazball won't work with the quick wickets and huge boundaries. They did look to have reined it in a bit during the recent series against India, so they can do it.

There’s a time and a place for it in test match cricket. That time and place is not on day 1 of the series.

That said Australia are usually more calculated in their approach and they’re doing worse than us.

I’ll be up again just before 5 tomorrow and expect I’ll stay up this time.

The fact that a) they even started that way, and b) failed to adjust at 0-1 or soon after sums them up.

More brain dead stuff this morning to bring the Aussies back into play. Time to dig in.

Dig in ? They just ain't capable, they just can't deviate from bazball. Given the importance of the 1st Test Match and the situation it's a beyond reckless approach.
Brain dead is the right description.
They had the Aussies right why they wanted them at one stage with a 100 lead and 9 wickets in hand.
What's the betting the Aussies now knuckle down and frustrate England.
It may sound dramatic but imo the whole series probably lies in the Aussie 2nd Innings.
If England blow this, then I doubt they will get a better opportunity than what they had.
On another matter I wonder if or how many Test Matches have been won by a side batting for less than 70 overs ?
