Test Match

DagenhamFox

Blue Roofer
Are we going to give this a go or what? 165 needed off 23 overs that’s less than 7 an over.

Let’s have a bit of a hit for a few overs and see where it takes us.

They can shake hands in 7 overs.

disgraceful

A meaningless test, a generous declaration, an actual audience, and a glorious day

If only we had a captain like Kane

what was root scared of - the substandard batting lineup he would have had some say in picking?

A complete and utter disregard for cricket fans, particularly on such a special occasion

Robinson shouldn't be the only one booted!

Damned if he did and damned if he didn't.

A few of them "have a go", get out cheaply (again) to some very good Kiwi bowling...and everyone goes nuts.

Instead, Sibley tries to put together an innings, Root is conservative, we don't lose, and still everyone moans.

(for the record, my language yesterday afternoon when it petered out was fairly choice. It was so monumentally boring I actually turned over to watch the foooking football....)

In other circumstances I would agree with a lot of what you say

However, this was a special test as it was a celebration of supporters back in grounds and the start of the international cricketing summer

The people who turned up or tuned in did not deserve that level of caution in a test match which signified nothing

If Root has no faith in his team perhaps he shouldn't be captain and be replaced by someone who has

Furthermore, he's on record as saying he wanted to win every test this summer but at the first opportunity he reneges and plays out a meaningless draw.

Do you really think everyone would 'have gone nuts' if we failed in a run chase because I don't and I don't think many cricket fans would - of course if we lost in similar circumstances and lost the Ashes as result then I would agree!

Cricket is already a marginal sport and rubbish captaincy like that risks marginalising it even more

and don't get me started on over rates!

Not arguing at all mate - I agree with all of that. I was spitting feathers. BUT - it does seem the way in English cricket that the 1st priority is not to lose. And I was equally irritated in the first innings for England batters seemingly unable to knuckle down for a bit.

Possibly would have been different with a middle order featuring Buttler & Stokes (and/or perhaps Woakes)
