Wrong forum. Cheerio!
no its not.

actually its only the wrong forum if you think its nothing to do with football, Its a ritual that we have to watch immediately before every kick off. l have an opinion of it but then that would be for another forum, so I'll keep it to myself, its a genuine question that no one as the answer for it seems. So then, if there's no reason why are they forced to do it and us watch ?

The National Anthem is an awful dirge.
Complete load of bollox.
It’s NOT like the National Anthem, awful dirge or not, it’s dug up here and there for Wembley or finals. Players regularly choose not to ‘sing along’
Taking the knee is expected of every player, at every Premier League fixture.
There’s no comparison

I don't think they are forced to do it. From memory Zaha doesn't, maybe Toney and Alonso?

Nobody is forced to do it.

We all know why it started, when the Black Lives Matter campaign was kicking off big time. All Premier League teams have black players and it was a way of showing unity to each other as well as the movement in what is the most watched football league in the world.

I don‘t think it made a blind bit of difference back then and it makes even less difference now. However I am a white male mid to late 40’s. If I was a black male and maybe a younger one, maybe I would think differently.

It harms nobody so what’s the problem?

The alternative is some of the black players in the squad and team get pissed off and their level of play drops. In my opinion that would be far worse.

but they are forced to do it, there's a pressure to. You named 3 players that don't, so its against the norm. Normalisation is a strong control mechanism as people will do what the majority do. No one said "l know, I'm going to kneel just before kick off". They were told to do it, then it was made to be normal as it didn't harm "anything". So if one player doesn't, he becomes a focal point for condemnation.

So we then go back to my OP "what's it suppose to do and how does it help anything" ?

I think Daggers literally just answered your question.

you mean some black player would be pissed off if they didn't ?

were they pissed of before this ritual was started ?

and l don't get why they would be pissed off !

"it harms nobody". doesn't explain what it suppose to do and does it help anything ?

For the sake of argument, why does the BBC show it before every game on a highlights program but they don't show the equally ritualistic hand shakes?

I couldn't care less.
If they want to do the Hokey Cokey, or some Morris Dancing - so what?
Suppose the question should be turned around.
Why does it bother people so much?

the commentators are obliged to make a short comment about it at every game.

The only reason for this is to drive it down our necks !

That, IS NOT voluntary, which l think adds to my original questions.

We are not talking about this openly really are we, the reason l think is if someone pushes this towards someone being offended, it then gets shut down and moved to another forum. KP as already tried this but with no explanation. I'm trying to keep this as a grown up chat really.

Think its bullshit, but doesnt bother me. If you let stuff like this piss you off, you get pissed off. I dont want to be pissed off, so I ignore it

But surely that answers the original question, if people ignore it why bother

Initially this was done to show support for the Black Lives matter Movement, a political organisation, started in the USA who's views I disagree with. However it has morphed, i believe , into a stand against racism which I support. If they want to kneel so they do and its a matter for them. I do however support their right to make the gesture. Whether its now relevant is a matter for those participating in the gesture, in my opinion.

We are all against racism though, as we are against pedophilia. Its a given, so what does the knee achieve and how.

I personally think pedophilia is vastly more important than hurt feelings, but there's no effort to bring that to every ones attention.

Its like what's worse a punch in the mouth or being called a fat cunt. No contest, we all would prefer name calling.

You only have to see the comments thrown at players on social media to know that unfortunately not everyone is against racism.
If the players think there's a need to take the need then I have no problem with it. Takes seconds as does the comments from the commentators.

After the euros final, not just on social media (defaced murals), proves that not everyone is against racism.

Do you think some of the problem was about smug, over paid, under performing stars who just happen to be black with their pictures easily accessible
