Support Acts that went on to be big names in their own right

mickyhoss

The music was thud like.
Def Leppard with AC/DC - Van Halen with Black Sabbath - Rose Tattoo with Rainbow - Southen Death Cult AKA The Cult forgot who they supported - Budgie with Gillan in my mind Budgie were bigger than Gillan - Iron Maiden with Judas Priest - Girlschool with Motorhead. There must be others but I can't think

Saw Budgie at Northampton County Rock in 76 or 77. All i can remember of the evening is Breadfan.
First gig i ever went to

Fantastic track and one of my go-to's on You-Tube
The lead singer looks and sounds amazingly like Geddy Lee from Rush

Best example I can think of was an unknown (in Leicester) LYNYRYD SKYNYRD as the support act to Nazareth, I think, at de Mont

we didn't know much about southern rock back then and with three lead guitars, Skynyrd blew the roof off the place....... then Nazareth came on and were quite boring in comparison

Since moving to America..... developed an appreciation for the genre with Stevie Ray Vaughan, Allman Bros & Lynryd Skynyrd as fine examples

Me and a few mates were partly responsible for putting on Budgie at Hinckley Regent, 11 May 1984.

The last time I heard Burke Shelly was living in Poland after surgery on a aneurysm

It was Golden Earring Skynyrd were supporting at DeMont, I was there and yes, they did blow them off the stage, bought the t shirt, yellow with long sleeves as I remember 🎸

Queen supported Jethro Tull c1974. Seven Seas of Rye had just charted I think.

Dont particularly like Queen but you could tell they knew what they were doing

I was at knebworth 76 as well!

Thanks RFF... yes, Golden Earring, who were hot at the time
I guess you and I were in the same crowd that night.... Skynryd came on, nobody had ever heard of them, but they were amazing.
So glad to have been there (y)

The Undertones supported The Rezillos at Leicester Uni students union, I think it was the first night of the tour and hance the Undertones' first GB gig.

NME tour 2006, headliners Maximo Park. Support on the tour Mystery Jets, We Are Scientists & Arctic Monkeys. By the time the tour started the Arctic Monkeys had already had a number 1 single and released their 1st album.
