Stadium Expansion Planning Permission

It has now been 33 weeks since City submitted their application, but they have agreed to the City Council pushing back the date on a decision. Asked for explanation over the two missed targets, a City Council spokesperson said: “It is normal for a large and complex scheme of this nature to take longer to determine. The club has agreed to the extensions of time.”

City do have permission to begin work on the site, having had green lights given for preliminary works at the end of last year and the beginning of 2022. Among those permitted works is the demolition of the National Grid building which stands on the plot where City will construct their new East Stand. However, work has not yet begun on the site.

I know nothing of what’s going on in the background so can only offer opinion.

It wouldn’t surprise me to learn of some kind of back peddling or delaying of expansion plans, in response to the Leicester fanbase showing a visible distaste to the onfield displays ….. empty seats

We've just sold out our entire season ticket allocation for another year and many missed out - apparently it takes at least three seasons of regularly attending as a member before you've even got a shout. Last season the KP was - yet again - the most filled stadium in the Premier League. We could easily sell 30,000+ season tickets and have an average attendance of 38,000-42,000.

Given the above, I'm pretty confident the delay is not because the club is packpedalling - it's probably just because the council isn't used to dealing with applications of this size and is taking longer than usual over it.

Given the amount of work our solicitors managed to need when we sold a three bed semi to move to a retirement apartment it is hardly surprising but why target end of Feb, then end of April then end of July?.
It's not just the size of the project but its affect on a whole neighbourhood, particularly traffic movement.
Otherwise I would have thought it a relatively open area with not many neighbours likely to object.
It is a lot more than a few thousand extra seats but unlocking the site for the other entertainment, retail and hotel developments.
A footbridge over the cut near the stadium would be welcome also...

Hope that’s the case. And hope there’s not any unnecessary obstacles thrown in the way by the council

Why would the council hinder a massive rise in potential council tax and employment?
Not getting it right could delay the start if some loose ends allow vested interests to
lodge objections...
PS The Ivanhoe line seems set to run passenger services in the near future. Strikes permitted, of course

The city council should be welcoming this development with open arms.
Especially the arena part of the plan, which Leicester has failed as a city to deliver for decades.
The delay is a disgrace!

If the Ivanhoe line gets the go ahead it would be great but I'm not optimistic, there is a lot of work and money needed
