Soton Match Thread

I’ve often wondered if Le Tissier regrets not moving to Chelsea and having a few seasons at a club capable of winning a trophy or two, rather than being the ultimate one club legend and keeping them in the top division for all those years?

Only one change from the Palace game, Perez/Praet in for Maddison (looked way off his game)
Another tough one but I reckon Vardy will bag a brace (1pen) and Iheanacho in a 3.1 win with them scoring late on...
Up the City... 👍

I saw on old Sky programme where he was in discussion with Gary Neville, reviewing his career. He said he was only ever approached by Spurs, but had no regrets about not leaving.

I remember one time him warming up before a match at Filbert Street and some bloke near me in the Kop shouted to him ‘£500 a week Matt, how about it?’. Le Tissier smiled back and put a thumb up.
Needless to say no-one at the Club followed up the offer.

Didn't he play a part in all six goals in a 3-3 draw at Filbert Street?

Edit. This one.

Lennon scored a beauty too.

I can see their manager saying to them that whilst not laying too many shots on goal they looked our equal when pressing us and 'having a go' in the semi final (for the 5-10 mins they bothered). I think he'll ask for more from them and want them at it from the start. I can't see a 3-1 even with the 🐐 in full flow. If we win i think it'll be by a single goal. Tielemans or Castagne for me.

From what I've seen of them this year they seem unable to maintain performance levels for more than one half. Whether its fitness I don't know but they must have lost loads of points from winning positions.

Not surprised if Tottenham was the option the poison chalice....

Last game of the season 30 years after they won the FA Cup and they were making Billy big bollox about it....cue 30 years you've won fuck all from the Lestah faithful...ace

Ings out, seemingly...
Looks certain that he’s out for the rest of the season -

Romeu and Bertrand also out. Still a decent side though, Ward-Prowse always a danger with free kicks and I’ve always rated Redmond.

Also Lawrenson has predicted a 0-2 score line. Worrying when he predicts a win for us but hopefully the carrot of creating a 10 point over WHU and being just 2 points behind Man U will see us through another tough game.

Looking back to last season, maybe the 9-0 victory wasn't so good after all. Given the choice and how the season panned out eventually, I would have preferred nine separate 1-0 victories.

I have heard it mentioned in several interviews is that they talked last season through, in particular the point exerting less energy when it's not required. Our reduced pressing seems to be one consequence, our much-improved consistency seems another, and we also manage to switch into a different gear late into games (perhaps most apparent vs. Liverpool in February).

As such, a 1-0 victory tonight would suit me perfectly nicely.

Yes, that's the downside to that approach: gnawing fingernails and possibly earthquakes... :) I didn't want to tempt fate by writing down a more comfortable scoreline though.

Any chance of team news being posted here as the club have turned off their Twitter feed?

I am sure we will oblige.
I have an app on my phone called Fotmob.
They always post team news 1 hour prior to kick off.
