Yeah it was the Gateway. Not sure what its called now.
Probably a Cannabis farm now like virtually all the gaffs down that way.

One of my old friends who emigrated to the I O. W. Came up for the Arsenal game and visits to relatives was in the Queen Vic pub and neither of us could remember
Thanks Snooty and Soho

Used to like the gateway. Became another pub (not sure of the name) in more recent years but it was weird. Was full of kids playing computer games last time I went in there. And it’s now unsurprisingly no longer a pub.

The Gateway was the pub where I met a lot of Roofers for the first time. As Shane says it was a decent boozer with a good selection of ales. Was there a pub that Roofers met before they started going there?

I met Rob/Soho in April 2008 in the Gateway. I'd started The Moaning Line in March. I think BR started in Dec 2007

They're not disinterested, they don't want to pay pub prices so get pissed in their uni accommodation before going to clubs.
slightly missed the point…. I was alluding to the fact that DMU has one of the largest Islamic societies among the UK’s tertiary education establishments. Increasingly young Muslims don’t drink

In the days before The Roof when Gary ran a messageboard operated by Sky for a while - wasn't that called The Fox?
And before that wasn't it the Treehouse?
Well some on here used to use the Huntsman.

What percentage of the 30,000 students at DMU, are part of the Islamic Society?
I have no idea what percentage of the intake to DMU joins. Although part of my work places me there and I am reliably informed that their society is one of the largest in the UK. It’s an interesting question though isn’t it…….(?)

The old manager at Barkby,'s Malt Shovel took it over for a while with his two lads before moving out to a country pub

It’s very difficult as an independent, trying to compete with the student union. For a while, a bar on the ground floor of the union building’The Graduate’ was launched, but only lasted three academic years until it lost out to ‘Level One’ upstairs.
Polar bear and Soar Point being chain-supported are the only only real successes there with a student market

Same with the Swan and Rushes that ended up being refurbed as a student bar and always looks empty as you walk past.

The landlord put the rent up too high and priced themselves out.
