So who believes in God,

I don’t. I don’t judge people who do though.

Imagine there’s something comforting in feeling like you have a purpose and that you might end up elsewhere once you’re brown bread.

I'm unsure.
Don't believe in the faith-based stuff. Where a God requires subservience, exerts control and seeks validation.
They are just human traits of what a person thinks God would be like.
None of the organised religions have anything to do with God.
They are fictional accounts, attempting to steer people way from sun worship and celestial deities.
Don't worship the sun, which brings all life to earth - but instead worship the one who created the sun.
Why would a God create everything, including humans, be all-powerful, omnipotent - but insist that nobody eats certain animals, you can't pick up a dropped grape, nor wear clothing of a mixed fabric...blah, blah, blah. You're not even allowed to mention the name of another "god"...
One of my favourite benevolent God stories is the one where the Israelite slaves are in the desert with Moses. They complained about the lack of food and water to Moses. God didn't like the moaning, so sent a plague of venomous snakes to kill a load of them...
Fucking snowflake...
It's all bullshit...

You don’t sound *that* unsure …

It doesn't get any more tedious than a card-carrying rationalist. I thought that 'new atheism' borefest died with Christopher/Richard Ditchkins.*

There has to be a creator, if there wasn't we wouldn't be here. Now some religions believe in Jesus and his God, while other religions believe in other Gods, some religions worship the Devil, Baal etc as their higher God. Some religions want to wipe out other religions. So the problem isn't people believing in their God. The problem is the people believing that their God has told them that they should kill other people who worship other Gods. That's just weird..

It's also interesting that the majority who believe in their god, do so because of the location where they, or their ancestors were born at. In most cases the god at their location, is only their god because someone either occupied or conquered that land. Amazing how each of them found the correct god, to tell them to kill the people at other places who had the wrong god imposed on them.
