As David Squires has it: "It's not really about the fight for racial equality; you see it's all part of a Marxist plot to overthrow the State and turn Burton-upon-Trent into a reeducation camp. And guys, Wembley's in London, which is in Das Kapital! You can't even watch England away without sunburnt Marxists taking over the Town Square and intimidating the locals with their beery songs of class struggle".

Really, I quite liked Melbourne. Only really visited the city centre though, enjoyed that.

We used to drive 970+ kilometres to Gaylords in/off Little Bourke St for a decent Indian meal, miles better than anything in Sydney at the time. Mrs AFC thought the shopping better too, but I couldn't comment on that.

Melbourne is the better city. But then I'm biased.

Should have remained the capital too.

Feels more European than Sydney and invented its own sport.

Indeed, even though I was there only for short visits I much preferred it. even though in Sydney we lived about half a mile up the hill from Bondi beach, Bellevue Hill. a genuinely nice spot. Bondi beach itself was a bit disappointing, mostly used Tamarama or Bronte.

Not sure that AFL is actually a sport, it doesn't appear to have any rules.

Mr T just hear me out with this. In my opinion taking the knee is no longer achieving anything. The normal members of society are acutely aware that racism is abhorrent, granted fat old white blokes can’t really understand the issues but we’re trying. The nutters are not going to change their views no matter what. So us right leaning whiteys need to be nudged along the path, I feel continuing with taking the knee is no longer sending a message and is clearly antagonistic to a minority so a new strategy is required. Pulling down statues does nothing for the cause and upsets the middle of the road generally decent majority. I don’t know what the answer is but causing people to effectively switch off certainly isn’t. Telling people they don’t understand and are part of the problem just has a negative effect, the people sending the message need to be innovative not repetitive, us old geezers need to be persuaded and educated not beaten or bored into submission. This is meant to be constructive and not critical we (decent people) all need to move down the road together, I’m afraid it might be too slow for some but evolution will work just a well as revolution in the long run. Changing history ain’t the answer, let’s change the future for the better
The fact that we are talking about it means its having an impact.

Whats the upshot then for the knee haters?
Now that Gareth & the squad have repeatedly said the team will continue with the gesture, will they purse their lips & keep quiet or go against the wishes of the team they're supporting & booooo?

What?

Just a guess but with the great and the good telling people that they "don't understand" it's unlikely to calm the situation

every one understands.

the boo-ers understand why the knee is taken.
the anti boo-ers understand why the boo-ers are boo-ing.

the boo-ers will claim they are booing something different. the only 'misunderstandings' are deliberate, and repeated.

The ones that take the knee are the ones that take the vaccine. The only thing they understand is what they’re told to understand.
More people are whispering the kings bollock naked.

Complete garbled nonsense.

Probably because they’re thick racists. You know, under premise of keeping politics out of football so they can hum about bombing foreign countries or sing about our wonderful colonial heritage, that sort of thing.
Maybe.

See, I thought you were a decent sort.

Bit of a leftie but it takes all sorts. Getting the beer in is far more important than politics!
I stopped doing left and right years ago. I realised nailing your colours to a particular mast you find yourself trying defend the indefensible when the looneys from both sides start using the establishment bullshit to keep the average joe down. It’s all about right and wrong and questioning the establishment bullshit.

Good to hear. Whilst resolutely to the right I consider myself to be 'non-aligned'. We might disagree on aspects of 'right and wrong' on occasions but that is just perspective, something that I can live with.
