So, PPV is here for PL games

I'm hoping that my local boozer will a) still be open and b) pay for the City games so I can go over and watch it still.

Failing that it will be back to hesgoal.

Greedy Bar stewards, I see this as just a test for the future, bigger troughs for Ozil and Co, I already pay over £1100 pounds pa now for Sky, BT and Amazon, they need to read my T&C, "I Do not pay EXTRA for PPV"

Just watch the Big Four press for more of the same when normality returns :(
If when they say the money is to go direct to the clubs in lieu of matchday takings they mean to the individual clubs hosting each game then this is indeed a slippery slope.

As long as it is under a collective agreement with equal distribution then I don't have a problem with the concept of PPV at a price that doesn't de-incentivise attendance (and whilst it is a collective agreement alongside current deals the "big 4" - or 5 or 6 or... - have less incentive as they'll mostly be scheduled as non-ppv games anyway). The problem comes if they control individually or as a small group ppv access to their own games.

That said, £15 a game in the current circumstances is beyond a joke - that's only about £7 less than it costs pro rata on my ST or half of an away day ticket. A slap in the face for season ticket holders of those clubs where fans have already paid for full STs especially.

Still, the rule of 6? £15 between 6 so £2.50 each, few beers, no social distancing...

Many of us on here are regular match day goers and that will continue when all this is over. Those who fill the void with something else are unlikely to revert to pay per view. There are plenty out there though who like the comfort of their own homes.

This makes it nigh on impossible to watch the next 3 matches live as they kick off at stupid o'clock here!

In Sardinia all games are on Sky. The only problem is they tend to up against Serie A games and the locals prefer them for some reason. Sadly that didn't stop me seeing all three West Ham goals live in the bar...

A few unfortunately have no choice but to watch football from the comfort of their homes. Sky give me spacker rates so I'll be watching.

What Sixth said. Susan Whelan was the only Club representative to vote against this. There should be a date in our calendar called "Thais day" to record our gratitude for the takeover. The owners may not have done everything right, but they have tried to do the right things.

Cheap here in Thailand. 399THB per month, 16 quid. All Champions league, Serie A, La Liga, Ligue 1, MLS, SPL, MLS and Champions League on Bein Sports for 699 for the whole season, 28 quid! No one has rights for Europa league yet here, which is a bit worrying!

I don't quite understand what your point is here Daggers.

Whilst not the same as live, I really don't mind the challenge of remaining ignorant of the score and watching instead 'as live' via one of the hooky replay sites. Did it for West Brom. The videos are usually of perfect quality and, apart from some that have short ads at 15 minute intervals, don't have any buffering or breakdowns to interrupt the action (or lack of).

even at the cheap prices here, loads of free and quite reliable streaming sites.
I didn't even realise PTV in Australia had the rights until I found them on a stream. English commentary.

The only PL club to vote against this was LCFC so they should stream the games free on the LCFC site if they can .

I thought the PL had been going after them all last season.
I found I got a lot more buffering in the second half of matches.
If there's a good streaming site out there I'll use it.

Hackers, get IPTV! Its great. A few of us on here have it, so much less hassle!

My point here Buzz is I don’t think many of us on here will pay the £15. Or others for that matter.

Football is a spectator sport and that atmosphere, chit chat, sharing your opinion with others is best served at a game or even in a pub than sitting at home.

When we come out of this and some semblance of normality returns pay per view is not the answer for all. The odd big game in no way compensates for all the nothing games that nobody really wants to see, in my opinion.

I’d love to see the breakdown from Sky how much of their revenue comes from Sports subscriptions here in UK compared to the money they get from selling the rights across the globe.

You make the mistake of assuming everybody who goes to football or wants to watch football is like you (or indeed me for that matter). When we get out of this completely then the imperative goes away and you & I go back to going every game (I know there are some on here for who the last few months have given them a perspective that has shown football to lay waaay down their list of priorities, it's the opposite for me).

So PPV in normal circumstances holds no interest for me personally. But I am not everyone. I am not lower on the priority list for away games, I am not a Leicester City fan living miles away - maybe even in a different country - who doesn't get to every/any game and where every game is not carried by local broadcasters, I am not a Manchester United or Liverpool fan who would desperately want to see 'my' team but cannot get tickets for the games not selected for normal TV coverage etc. & hate hooky streams. So, yes, as a concept I don't have an issue with PPV even though in normal circumstances I would not consider using it. The danger comes with that last group - and always has even in the traditional model - because they are likely to be bigger in number & lead to the whole "hold on, we should be getting much more money than the others" conversations or even the "hold on, why don't we do this ourselves" ones.

Also, just an additional note, it will be interesting to see when normality returns what attendance will be like. For many people Football is as much a habit as anything, stop the habit and they will stop going. However, I suspect that after the grimness of lockdown people will flock back (I think the decision on Friday especially with regards to pricing and availability may have made it a little less likely, I think the clubs have seriously misread the mood). It just might not be the same people that are going.

I'm feeing a little more optimistic since reading the valid point that Clubs really benefit from the certainty of knowing upfront pretty much what money they will get each season. Any sort of individual PL PPV scheme would lessen that certainty.
Interestingly, I also read that Manure weren't keen on this season's PPV decision partly because they won't benefit much as almost every one of their games is already on TV, whilst many other clubs will get more money because they're usually on TV less.
