I dragged a six foot Pike out of the River Soar at Sutton Bonnington, took two of us to lift him.Ever since he climbed Everest, I’ve looked up to him. And unlike Smith or Carragher, he saves me a fortune on mute buttons.
Were you at Mallory for the Sidecar Race of the Year when Owen Greenwood lapped the entire field 5 times in a 12 lap race? he was driving his souped-up Bonsor Model H utility truck, his passenger Olive Rudge was doing her knitting throughout the whole race.I saw Irvine Moss win a Formula Two race at Mallory Park. He came straight off the A47 without stopping, joining the race on the Kirkby Straight. Sherpa Tenzing pipped John Surtees for second, driving a Commer Express Delivery Van.
I was there too, we had campers in our orchardI was at Mallory for the Radio 1 fun day. Not sure the Bay City Rollers enjoyed it though!
I believe she was related to Larry Grayson or was that Ada Wormleighton?.......Ada Lovelace, the only legitimate daughter of Lord Byron through her mother Lady Annabella Milbanke, lived at the now long demolished house on the Mallory estate. Lord Byron was a frequent visitor, before his later European exile, and it's thought that he wrote some of his major works there.
There is a blue plaque to commemorate Ada's work with Charles Babbage on his Difference Engine,a calculating machine which required a written programme to carry out complex calculations. Ada is considered to be one of the World's first computer programmer's and was later honoured for her work in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
She last saw her father, as a baby, at Kirkby Mallory Hall in 1816. Ada died in 1852 at the age of 36.
