RIP Paul Matthews.

Did he score late against Yanited back in the day
Only saw him a few weeks ago
RIP Paul
Oh wow ..so sorry to hear that. Lovely man and a City fan after he finished playing too.
I had the pleasure of playing golf with him once and he was a real gentleman.
RIP Paul

My first season was 68/69, Paul Mathews was part of Frank O'Farrells's squad, I did get his autograph at Belviour Drive before the start of the 69/70 season when Leicester finished 3rd and Huddersfield and Blackpool won promotion. I think he was there for the following season when Leicester won the league but I would need to check that. I can still see him now, I guess he was about 5 10 and yes he did look a bit like Alan Clarke, same hair style too. RIP Paul Mathews, proper footballer.

I still have the 1970/71 Division 2 Champions enamel badge with the Trophy in the centre (shield design).

…..Paul was transferred to Mansfield Town in 1972. He later played for Rotherham United,Northampton Town, Enderby Town,Heanor Town and Oadby Town. His Leicester career started in 1964 and he had a short loan spell at Southend United (playing only once) before leaving for Mansfield.

I remember him being a bit player for us. Played as sub quite often until Stringy took the position more often. Didn’t he play on the wing? I remember him being quite skinny. Good player though. RIP

61 appearances (5 goals) in 8 years. 1964-1972.

Was a fringe player by the time I started going in 1967, not even sure I ever saw him play. From what everyone has said he sounds like a decent bloke. RIP.
