Responsible for the iconic opening riff on one of my fave toons of all time. I remember recording this directly off TOTP (not 'alf pop pickers!) on a reel to reel tape. I've played this version of HOTRS hundreds of times.

A superb toon* recorded in one take so I read once.
*Very clever how you changed tune to toon to give a nod to the Animals home town.

I did the reel to reel recordings off totp as well, my dad's Grundig as I recall, that guitar intro used to send shivers down my spine, RIP

There were some dodgy goings on with the royalties for the copyright in the composition of the song with the Animals hit.
Forget the record sales royalties which were all shared equally amongst the band.
I'm talking the songwriters royalties.
This song was a traditional blues/folk song which was not in copyright. Normally royalty free.
However the band were promised they would all share an "arrangement" royalty.
As it happens the arranger's credit on the record was granted entirely to Alan Price who copped the royalties in the song.
When the rest of the guys found out it broke up the band.
The poor guy who has just died was robbed.
Just like Matthew Fisher in Procol Harem got nowt for his organ solo until he sued 40 years later.

Didn't know that.

Actually watched 'Don't Look Back', that Dylan film not too long ago. Price was yukking it up backstage and Dylan starts haranguing him about why he left the band and Price starts crying, it's a little uncomfortable to watch. Thought Dylan just came off as a bit of an asshole 😐
