RIP Billy Hodgson

Great little player. Got him from Sheffield Utd for 2 years,63-65, then sold him to Derby. I only mentioned him a couple of days ago about the 8-1 League Cup win at Coventry 1964! Very sad to hear RIP Billy.

Billy was in the Sheffield Utd team that we beat in the 1961 FA Cup Semi Final after 2 replays. 0-0,0-0 and 2-0.

Riley decided to go to teacher training college which allowed Hodgson in and he was good for a couple of seasons. Then we signed Jackie Sinclair.
RIP Billy Hodgson . How good was Jackie Sinclair? Anyone who saw him play raves about him I’m not old enough. I see his goal scoring record at City was 50 in hundred games and he won a trophy at Newcastle.... that’s impressive in itself 😉

Billy Hodgson was a good workmanlike player. Sinclair was the real deal, he could beat his man, put in a cross and could finish. We did have some very good players in the sixties and seventies.

Sinclair had no back lift when he shot so surprised the keepers , but the ball went like a rocket. The goal against man city where he back heeled the ball over the player, ran round him then volleyed home from an angle, would have been goal of any season. After he had I think scarlet fever he was never the same player not for us or Newcastle .

Jackie Sinclair was my first football hero ! in fact l think l only ever had 2 football heroes the other being Glover.
