So, if your profile marks you as “registered”, you have decided not to pay towards the costs of this fine roof. If you are “registered”, what is your reason for not contributing? Over to you.
 
He wants just £12 a year which I don’t think is enough as I’m sure tge costs are increasing and will continue to given the fact everything is going up in price.

£12 is the price of 4 coffees, a couple of pints and a cheese cob. It’s not a lot for contributing as well all miss it if it goes.

Had no idea anyone was expected to pay until this week.Don't mean to be funny but how come foxes talk and the other forums im a member of are all free.Will consider paying just seems confusing.
 
Everton, @mac can also reply if he wants as he runs this place and pays the bills.

This and other forums are a hosted service and as such there are fees to pay. If you subscribe you don’t receive ads which is maybe where the charge comes in.

There are other benefits such as being able to direct message people.

Payment isn’t something Mac demands from anyone which is why it’s not plastered all over the site but for the money he wants each year it’s nothing really and without it the doors would close for good.

I am not marked as "registered" but have considered reverting mainly because of every post looking to shame or criticise those who don't contribute financially for whatever reason. I think Mac's always been clear that that isn't what this place is about and it says more about the people criticising than those not paying. If it means enough to enough people it will survive as long as Mac or someone wants it to (edited to add I mean if enough people pay enough AND mac or someone wants it to continue).

But then again I don't give a rats ass whether this place exists or not.

Ok. Mac had to post a plea last week, as funds were getting low. I just dont think he should have to. When he did, loads of us just chipped in, even though we have paid before. Jst doesnt seem fair. Arent you an accountant? If so, you will know that every service carries cost. You arent even a particularly “occasional poster”, you post some good stuff. If you cant afford it, fair enough, accountancy obviously isnt what it used to be. That you “dont give a rats ass, if this place wasnt here”, says quite a lot about you.

I agree (and have alluded to it on more than one occasion before) but that is, in my view, partly down to the road that Mac (and Mickey before him) has chosen to travel with this.

Yeah but then when you start about fairness it ends up like a bad group meal in a restaurant: "well, I only lurk, why should I pay the same as someone who posts?", "I only post occasionally why should I pay the same as someone who posts loads every day", "I only use one of the forums why should I have to pay the same as someone who uses all of them?".

What's fair? My point is you have to forget about weighing up fairness etc. think about what it means to you, if it means a lot & it means that to more people it will survive. But I'll tell you this, witch-hunting people who aren't paying will ultimately push them away and reduce the chance of them ever paying anything.

Agree wholeheartedly with him.
Have paid numerous times, as has he, but trying to ‘out’ people who might be skint/unemployed/caring for someone/etc etc etc (fuck all business of anyones) is beyond the fucking pale really isn’t it?
Not an act befitting of a community at all.

As has been said elsewhere. your attitude and that of a couple of Reform posters who are saying the same thing is more likely than not to stop posters coming here, then the discussions will simply be led by you and pen4 and the like and then you'll all have to pay £100+ to keep the board running.

If the owner wants to make it a pay site perhaps he can make it an onlyfans, if he wants money off me then he can ask, if he wants to ban those of us who actually contribute something non-financial to the site he has that power. Of course there is also the ads and clicks and other ways of making money from a site AND there are still sites that charge nothing for a forum - I know I've run one for years for my students.

I was tempted to donate before the aggressive bullies thought that they could make me do something, they made me think of Trump. It was more extortion with threats, than taxation, so I'll take my merry time, after all the site isn't on the brink of going down, in fact the Trump-lites are just unhappy that they've been shamed into paying their hard earned £12 and others haven't paid anything.

It can't be thought of as taxation when the selling price is £0 can it? Anyway under my fair taxation, only the rich would be paying as £12 to them would be like 12p to the rest of us. I wonder how embarrassing the thugs action is to the owner of the site?
