Real Ale Twats

I’ve found draught ales pretty hard to come by in London, certainly if you want a good selection. Even the Wetherspoons are struggling.

I’m in Harrogate this evening and a bar that normally has 4 or more uncommon and local beers (and sometimes a draught Bass) has one local beer and Doom Bar. Very disappointing.

A sign of the times?

Doom Bar is not a good pint anymore since Coors took it on board, only the holiday makers drink it down here and locals drink St Austell Breweries Tribute or Proper Job, Padstow Brewery do some nice ales, Kor’ Dorgel being my favourite, spoilt for choice in Cornwall as we have loads of small breweries making ale, Newquay Steam is even back in The Cornishman in Crantock…

Get yourself to Southwold and the Sole Bay Inn. There a couple of weeks back and 11 different Adnams ales on tap.
Most pubs I’m visiting seem to have halved their draught ales selection ... possibly because they’re not selling enough to keep if fresh.

Not out and about a lot lately, not been that well but plenty of choice from what I can see when I do get out. Dorset Brewery, Hall and Woodhouse, Ringwood and a fair sprinkling of other 'local' beers from Cornwall to Kent.

Then of course there are a few 'micro' breweries that brew on the premises, interestingly different. Agree with the comment that draught ale sales are down, as is the pub trade overall but so far the effect is minimal in this part of the world.

Is the Cornishman open again now, as it was being refurbished when we were there in July

If your ever down west cornwall Feckit go in the star inn at Crowlas on the way to Penzance, Pete is a master brewer and brews it on site, pints start at £3.40 fantastic beer.

Can’t quite work out why this thread is on the Main Football forum , surely it should be in The Quiet Room , or Compost Corner 😉

Not one that I have seen in Poole but will definitely keep an eye out. Not really a 'pint of the usual' sort of bloke, I really do like to try different things.

One of my preferred locals has Doombar which is by far it's most popular draught ale. Possibly because of the regular usage I find it reliable and perfectly acceptable, preferable to nominally 'better' beers that have been hanging about. The pub has a proper cellar too, so temperature is usually spot on.

Sole Bay is good, Lord Nelson even better in Southwold. Bitter and Broadside fresh as a daisy.

They really do an array of very different stuff. It’s only a small brewery so you only see it local to Lyme. Furthest I’ve seen it is West Bay and Bridport

We get out that way on occasion, been thinking about Lyme Regis for a while, will try and make the effort when I am feeling a bit better. Any recommendations for an overnight stay?

You can get a bus from Poole to Exeter,if it's still going! Caught it from Weymouth to Lyme Regis a few years ago.

We never stay as it’s only a 25 min drive for us so not sure. The brewery is located right in the middle of the town right next to the river Lym which is more of a stream. It’s in a lovely courtyard. All very quaint.

No, only a short walk away Hales Bar. It’s a quirky old place with gas lights in the roof and gas cigar lighters on the bar. I’ve been up here for work. I had two in Roosters tap room just near to the office and a pint in Hales then hit the sack after a bit of scran.
