Read this Mister Southgate

I really don't get this workload /tired bollocks, surely the German,Italian and Hungarian players have had similar if not the same workloads or does it only affect English players,
I said the same to Gary Neville on Twitter earlier. The German league did have more of a summer rest that we did and they play less games in a season, however we all know their players play in leagues across Europe not all in the Bundesliga.

It's lazy, but understandable to make the comparison. We all know that BR knows his first choice 11 when they're fit.

Does anybody think Southgate knows his?

We've been making this tired excuse for years and years, we blamed the "mid week" internationals initially but the present situation is no better

As you say a substantial number of foreign internationals play in the Premier League and that doesn't seem to be a problem for them

But that is ignoring that club and international managing are very different animals.
Scoring more goals than the opposition is a prerequisite of all football matches. We're too keen to over complicate and over analyse what is essentially a very simple game

This season it is a valid reason / excuse. So that makes me think anyone who is definitely travelling to Qatar should have been nowhere near this squad. It should have been largely fringe players and some new ones to try out, and anyone who’s returning from injury if there is anyone. If it didn’t work it doesn’t matter as this is a pony tournament anyway.

Southgate never had players for that long together in one go, apart from in tournaments, due to Covid it was perfect chance to look at players like Maddison, Justin and more. He could have unearthed a gem or two to give a look at in the next two games with a full squad.

There was far more to gain from doing that than from what actuallly happened in my opinion.

Trouble is he doesn't want to unearth any new talent because that will only make him look more of a twat when he leaves them out to pick his usual 7 defensive players plus mount and kane that only leaves one place so the woke in him will pick either sterling or saka image any other country having players like foden, grealish maddison and the likes and either of selecting them or leaving them on the bench

You have nailed it. It is not about the results but the failure to really assess fringe players, particularly ones in form like Maddison, Abrahams. He is a stubborn man who has gained nothing from the recent games except criticism.
