Rab Douglas .....

The "Legendary" Ex-Celtic and Leeds United Goalkeeper (No mention of him playing for us in the notes) is playing for Celtic in the Masters Tournament at the Braehead Arena, Glasgow on Friday, July 8th. The last heard from him when playing for us was when Levein said he had a long term injury by falling down the Stairs at home .....

That's him Borebage..
I’m a year older than him and can remember playing against him once in schools football. He was a really good goalkeeper. But he let in a really soft first goal in that FA Cup tie against Orient and never really recovered from it as a City player after that.He was loaned and then subsequently signed by Peterborough. I think he also played for Northampton for a while!

I remember looking out of the window in English literature class watching Carl Jayes training with the PE teacher in the gym at school. I was at that orient game and sat in the DD on a school ticket. Coming out of the ground and splitting up with my mates a bloke asked me the way to the station. I walked him all the way back and had a great chat with him, he claimed to be Chris Finnegan's brother which obviously impressed me. We got to the station at the same time as the Orient team who he went to congratulate and they obviously knew him. I recognised Bowyer , who I think scored in the game. I remember someone being on crutches but don't know if that happened in the game. Happy with the pound note the man gave me, it took the edge off being knocked out of the cup.

I’ll second that. Was never happier to see Wallington back in the side than after those first four games of 83-84!

I still, nearly 40 years later, can’t believe we survived that season. Those first 2 games where we were thumped by Notts County and Luton at home were probably right up there with the worst performances I’ve ever seen by us. The first 10 games we drew twice and lost the rest. Last 5 games we lost 4/5. Awful.

Considering we gave the world Banks and Shilton we really have had some shite between the posts

I remember the Notts County game vividly. Opening day of the season, beautiful sunny day, it was “only” Notts County, what could possibly go wrong? We ended up making them look like Brazil, it was a disaster.

Made the trip up from London on Tuesday, sure they would have sorted it out, and we were only playing Luton, only for the same thing to happen again!

Thank Christ Milne put Wallington back in goal and signed Big Bob!

Quite a list that one! Most best forgotten. Ricardo and Michael Price? Remember most of the others though. Mike Hooper shipped a load in one game and still got MoM as I remember.

Loved that season after the crappy start. First season where, after missing Stoke at home early ill, I became obsessed with not missing home games (and didn't for many years...away games soon followed!). Our home form (which I saw) between those 2 periods you mentioned was really good & we played some good stuff as I recall (highlight for me was the 3-0 against the Arse)... our away form (which I wasn't present at) didn't do us any favours.

But, yeah, Mark Grew... sheeeeesh
