Private Hospital Near Filbert St

What was the name of the private hospital and what street was it in?
My window cleaner reckons he was born there.

The Fielding Johnson Private Hospital before it closed was at 80 Regent Street close to New Walk Museum. The grand looking Victorian building is still there but probably split into separate office spaces nowadays.
Nuffield and Bupa, etc, usually took these type of places over either to move them elsewhere or sell the properties off!

I thought reading the headline that the newly opened Seagrave private hospital for knackered LCFC players was being moved to nearer the KP

Fielding Johnson Hospital is in Lutterworth

Unless perhaps any part of the LRI was latterly run privately? It opened in 1771 and funding meetings and decisions on which patients could be admitted were held at the Three Cranes pub. As beer was then deemed a healthy cure the Hospital had it’s own Brewery on the site (those were the days,eh!). Admissions were on Tuesday’s only and patients had to pay one Guinea up front. This was refunded if you survived or used for the funeral costs if you didn’t!

Fielding Johnson Hospital is in Lutterworth
It is the former Lutterworth Cottage Hospital, now called the Fielding Palmer Hospital,Micky. It is part of the local NHS Trust.
The main administrative building of Leicester University is now also called the Fielding Johnson Building. I think these names have local historical connections!

That's right, mea culpa. Me Dad's in Loughborough Hospital now

My point, soho is that you posted on the 'main football' forum something about a hospital.
Other 'miscasts' have been about the wife's health and food poisoning.
Having had a post diverted to a more
'appropriate' forum just wondered about the forum headings....

Thomas Fielding Johnson (1828-1921) was a prominent Victorian businessman and philanthropist in Leicester. The family home was in Stoneygate. He generously donated 37 acres of land that he owned in 1919 for the establishment of Leicester University of which part of the modern University still stands. He was a member of the Board of Governors at Leicester Infirmary for 30 years, spending most of it as vice-chairman and then chairman.
The Fielding Johnson Company was the first in Leicester to use steam engines in it’s factories.
Fielding Johnson’s father-in-law was a partner in the legal firm of Stone,Paget and Billson and left a legacy to future generations of lawyer’s in the form of his ‘Stone’s Justices’ Manual’.

Can we cut Soho a bit of slack here as it just about “limps in” to this forum because he was asking a question about a private hospital that might have been close to Filbert Street?

I was chatting to my window cleaner and he said he followed Leicester and was born in a private hospital near Filbert St.
He didn't know the street or the name of the hospital.
But it was football related cos we were talking about City.

Perhaps the ‘consultant’ at the said private hospital near Filbert Street might have been Dave Rennie!

The better answer would have been: "The other fackin' forums are full of fackin' shit, why would I have ever gone on there?"

And what about those of us who walk by the old Fielding Johnson building en route to Filbo, KP or maybe one of the hostelleries nearby? Totally valid post on the Main Football Forum!

This is why I love this place. When I practised law in the Magistrates Court Stone was the bible. I have not heard it mentioned for over thirty years until it pops up here. Amazing.
I was born in a private hospital on Shaftesbury Avenue which is quite near Filbert Street, though not quite as close as the one on Regent Road.
Presumably when someone discovers that Fielding Johnson had an auntie who employed slaves then the main admin building at the University will have staff members throw eggs at it prior (football link, there, Oadlad) to it being renamed after George Floyd or some other woke icon.

Fielding Johnson Hospital
Built as 3 large houses in 1845/6 and converted into a private hospital in 1922-25. The 3 houses were run together and a ward wing and operating theatre were added. The hospital finally closed in 1989.
