I’ve been going since 66. I never thought I’d get beyond my teenage heroes of Shilton ( my first ever game was him playing in the U15 schoolboy cup final) Frankie, Weller and Glover.
Walsh though was immense, a real stalwart who stayed 15 years through thick and thin, a great CH who could also play CF as we found out.
So I never thought I’d see beyond them. But I was wrong. Badly wrong. Vardy is everything I love in a footballer, especially the modern version. Application, skill, team work, modest, funny ( his wind up of opposition fans) and all round evolvement as he’s got older. When he goes down injured and stays down I am immediately worried. Because unlike pretty much every other modern player there’s no acting. Normally just gets up and carries on. ( James Maddison please take note).
PL, FA Cup, CS and golden boot winner at 33!! 7 goals in 19 England appearances ( no pens unlike Arry)
We’ve got lucky. That turn down of Arsenal was the moment. I honestly believe if he’d gone he’d NEVER have scored half of what he’s done with us. He’d be on the bench and now at nearly 35 not even in their squad. In fact he’d be out of contract.
Finally for some dumb reason none of the so called big clubs have pursued him probably for egotistical reasons. I don’t think they trust him. He’s a maverick to them.
So in my 55th year of supporting the City he’s the ONE. I hope he continues to break more records and I for one ( and probably many others) will have a lot of Saharan sand in my eyes when he plays his last game for us.
