Optimistic after today

I’m normally in a right grump when we lose, no matter who we play because I believe we can win every game
However feel a little different today. With evans & vestergaard coming back into the fold the worry over our defence is lessened dramatically.
Thought castagne & Bertrand were also fine today, ndidi brilliant as he is most of the time also.
Tielemans & vardy, while not there best games had a fair few very good moments.
Main reason though that I’m optimistic is that Man City as we all know are quality & it could be argued that we were worth a point & that in my book is pretty positive especially when we had 2 passengers in our team with Maddison & barnes. Don’t know what’s wrong with barnes so far this season, he hardly made a single run today & never looked interested in doing so.
Maddison is just continuing his form from basically the last 12 months, so no surprises there.
In conclusion I hope in a few weeks time we have a settled defence, pereira in for albrighton & 2 up front & we will be more than fine.

We need Ricardo back at right back not right midfield.

& what happens when Justin comes back?
Also do you really think that pereira won’t do a better job at right midfield than albrighton?
I think you just lose what he gives you at full back because on his day he's a world class full back . Look at the goal he created at Norwich he wouldn't of done that if he was played further forward. Justin will play left back when he gets back fit like he did before he got injured.

Yep saw him interviewed previously saying he was his most difficult opponent. To me if Barnes is not been positive, running at pace and changing direction he shouldn't be on the field and today he was very reluctant to do this.

I was thinking of Barnes when reading the recent interview with James ex Man U now Leeds about playing safe. Barnes has enough credit with the fans (unlike Gray) to play without fear and give it a real go even if he will lose the ball from time to time.

But that may be the problem we have, because hanging on to the ball is what Rodgers is all about, and Barnes has this ringing in his ears. And,of course making out the oppo to be feared, hence Barnes comments re Walker, who is good, but not that good.

Man City yesterday were much better than us at making space, with players constantly moving about. They played Grealish as a traditional winger, allowed to switch wings, not as the midfielder he was at Villa. Thursday would be a great opportunity to play the team that finished the game yesterday, with Soumare for Maddison and Riccy for Albrighton. Or should that read Sunday ?

Yesterday barnes definitely had the body language of someone who had been told not to take any risks by making too many runs forward. As you say elmet, thinking far too much about what the opposition could do to us.

We are struggling to score goals at the minute and that’s a worry and needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. We had a long spell of not creating an awful lot once they had scored until Lookman and Ihenacho came on, both looked bright.

My hope would be daggers that the fear of our weak defence has been the issue regarding lack of creativity.
Hopefully if vestergaard & evans can now stay fit I would hope to se us expressing ourselves going forward a little more.

Totally agree, I normally try and hold off the feeling of the expected despondency after a loss but it never came.
I personally think that how deep we set out to play we would have been better not starting with one or both of Barnes and Maddison, nothing against them but we have the depth to play horses for courses.
We had the best two moves of the game and if either had ended up in the net they would have been up for goals of the month. We have brilliance in this side. UTC

I think you’re spot on there.
