No idea why AFC Left London

One of my mates lives in N********.
Out of necessity, rather than desire.
He went for a night out, when the pubs reopened and saw a woman having a shit in a doorway of a shop.
It was early evening and busy.

It definitely has something. There are things about London I absolutely love. But I'd rather live elsewhere.
Me too Regi, I have considered West London to have been my home for about 50 years. I have lived elsewhere but London was very special, until quite recently that is.

It has changed a lot in the last 10 years or so, an air of menace on the streets, the all pervasive smell of drugs, and a noticeable 'fuck you' attitude from even 'normal' looking people.

The move to Dorset is a real eye opener, people are relaxed, friendly and chatty in a way that I had not seen in London for a very long time, the contrast is amazing.

I disagree Hackney. Whilst people change the city is always also changing and evolving.

With London some things do remain the same, many old buildings right next to modern buildings but the dynamic and new skyscrapers especially in the city are helping to change the landscape.

The atmosphere has slowly returned post Covid I hope this winter doesn’t set it all back again.

An air of menace on the streets?
It’s an age thing, you got old and left, it happens. You changed not the city.
No.

The city has changed immensely in recent years, some things for the better, some for the worse. Acknowledging that does not suit your agenda, but the reality is there for anyone to see. None so blind.....

Or those that hate shit in a phone box 😂😂
Or gangs of feral youths roaming the streets snatching handbags, accosting Mrs AFC after a 'late' at the surgery as she might have some 'drugs'. I really miss the smell of weed and the used needles on the stairs to our flat, the damage to our car and property, yeah, really miss all that.

Stop being a scaredy cat and a snow flake. Embrace the diversity.

I know, scaredy cat bad... :(

Seriously for a moment, the decision to leave London was taken about 6-7 years ago, put in abeyance for a year because of my cancer.

The balance of life in London was shifting for us, yes we were getting older, but we found that few of the things we enjoyed about London actually involved involved going into central London, apart from a handful of decent restaurants, we rarely bothered, preferring more local pursuits in west London where we lived.

But that was changing too, drugs, violent criminal and antisocial behaviour was becoming more common and when the threat became 'personel' we decided that the balance had shifted to the negative side.

We left in 2018 knowing that there was little possibility of a return for financial reasons. No regrets so far.

Glad you’ve no regrets. It’s a double edge sword for me. I’ve no issues with diversity and different cultures. In fact I love it. But the establishment have created a monster by ghettoing the immigrants. Leaving the youth with little to do and pricing material things out of reach for many while society glamourises crime and the fruits of crime. Add to that the unfairness of the system and you’ve created a very dangerous unpleasant melting pot.

That's an interesting point.
You don't see many films, or hear many songs about just getting on with things, living a life that causes no harm to others and not being materialistic.
How boring would that be...

Of course there are things that we still miss. It took Mrs AFC a couple of years to get over not having her work and all the things that go with it, but she is over that. So involved with other stuff now she wonders how she ever managed a full time job.

I agree that the authorities have deliberately caused division, that is part of their agenda, but they have done it at a more fundamental level.

What you are describing are really only the symptoms of the real problem that is never discussed and never will be.

We listen to all those above, us old farts. But you want to spend some time listening to the stuff young Asian/ black youths listen to. (One of my team leaders listens to it on YouTube) 😳

You’re right about one thing. A lot of the good bits about London are central. Dagenham doesn’t have a huge amount going for it but it’s not as violent as some parts of West London sound and it is affordable, well as affordable as London ever gets.

Some suburbs do have decent areas but they’re not massively high on my list of places to visit for a day / night out.
